FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED IN MAKING DECISIONS RELATING TOFINANCIAL EXPENDITURE FOR A CLIENTAPPENDIX 4The following are the main items that should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered when making a decisi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong>incurring expenditure for a client. It must be noted that each client has a different financialpositi<strong>on</strong> and ability and should be treated individually.1. <str<strong>on</strong>g>In</str<strong>on</strong>g>come and Capitali) Need to maximise income by ensuring that the client receives all eligiblebenefits.ii)iii)Need to maximise capital by arranging appropriate investment for the client.C<strong>on</strong>sider any expenditure already committed <strong>on</strong> the clients’ behalf.2. Type of Expenditurei) Ascertain whether it is a single purchase.ii)iii)C<strong>on</strong>sider the fixed commitments, and regular outgoings – whether short or l<strong>on</strong>gterm.3. Pers<strong>on</strong>al NeedsAssess what the likely savings are <strong>on</strong> a regular basis.i) A client with mobility problems may have the need for transport and heavy wear<strong>on</strong> clothing.ii)iii)4. AgeHoliday requirements should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered and such commitments can beexpensive.Ascertain the current state of the client’s health to assist in deciding the viabilityof providing the item.i) As stated above the needs of each individual should be c<strong>on</strong>sidered. <str<strong>on</strong>g>In</str<strong>on</strong>g> additi<strong>on</strong>more extensive planning might be involved when a young client has <strong>on</strong>goingrequirements and commitments.5.
