2009/2010 PilotPilot details• Clemson University• Spring 2009: Offered in the last weeks of the semester ofthe Global <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> Management class. Lecture andexamination 2 weeks apart. Dr. Ellis provided additionalexercises in period between lecture and exam. Pass: 25• Fall 2009: Introduced <strong>SCOR</strong> concepts and metrics earlier inthe semester, followed by SCC instructor lecture and exam,additional exercises. Pass: 20• Spring 2010: Lecture scheduled for eom March• Student feedback very positive. More students enrolled forthe global supply chain management class each semester.

<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar Program<strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> <strong>Council</strong> responsibilities• Annual agreement with universities: Agree on lecture andtesting dates, for each semester• Secure a SCC qualified instructor *• Provide student registration tool and reports• Timely shipping of lecture materials• Deliver 2-day lecture at university venue• Timely shipping of all materials required for testing• Rating of test results, publishing pass/fail results to students• Send <strong>SCOR</strong>-S certificates


<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar ProgramUniversity responsibilities• Agreement with <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> <strong>Council</strong>: $300 per student perlecture/test• Receive and distribute registration instructions and lecturematerials• Provide venue and AV for 2-day lecture• Provide testing facility and proctors• Receive, securely store and return testing materials

SCC targets undergraduate supply chain <strong>program</strong>s toget the foundational knowledge in place is early as possible• Can we offer <strong>SCOR</strong>-S to Executive MBA <strong>program</strong> students?Yes, but we recommended <strong>SCOR</strong>-P for individuals with 5 ormore years business experience• My university does not have a SCM <strong>program</strong>; can we build itaround the <strong>SCOR</strong>-S <strong>program</strong>This university will not meet entry requirements. SCC doesnot support establishing SCM <strong>program</strong>, our goal is augment• Can faculty give the <strong>SCOR</strong>-S lecture?Yes, faculty members would need to enter the path tobecome SCC Qualified instructors (See SCC website)


<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar ProgramQuestions and Answers• Who collects the funds from the students?The university. SCC will communicate registrations to theuniversity if required.• Can a university charge the students for <strong>SCOR</strong>-S?Yes. SCC does not dictate how the <strong>program</strong> is funded at theuniversity.• Can a university charge more than $300?Yes. SCC does not dictate how much the university chargesit students or how funds are collected by the university.• Can a university offer this to guest students?Yes. SCC will not require proof of enrollment of a student atthe university. We do require a university issued emailaddress for each student to provide access to registration.


<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar ProgramQuestions and Answers• Who will provide the training materials?SCC. Students will receive instructions how to downloadmaterials AND printed materials will be shipped to theuniversity for distribution by faculty to students• Where will the students take the exam?The testing site needs to meet SCC requirements, isprovided/staffed/funded by the university• Who will provide the examination materials?SCC will ship question booklets, answer sheets, pencils w/eraser, comment forms and proctor instructions. Universitywill need to FedEx all papers return SCC.


<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar ProgramQuestions from the Webinar• Can universities group together if there are insufficientstudents in a single <strong>program</strong> to meet the entry numbers?Yes, as part of the information submitted for review allshould be included• Can the lectures be taken online?At this time SCC has no plans to make these availableonline. Student interaction has been considered animportant part of the learning experience• Can the lectures be scheduled over a weekend?Maybe. This primarily depends on the availability ofinstructors over the weekend• How many hours per for lecture?6-6.5 hrs for each day (total 12-13 hrs)


<strong>SCOR</strong> Scholar ProgramQuestions from the Webinar• Can universities share faculty as lecturers?Yes, a $2000 discount applies if the university provides theSCC Qualified instructor. The instructor needs to be qualifiedby SCC• If you compared this certification <strong>program</strong> to the PMI, ISM,and APICS <strong>program</strong>s, how would you describe it to studentsand practitioners?<strong>SCOR</strong>-P certification is comparable to PMI certification. Bothhave a framework and methods that are trained. APICS ismore of an introduction to concepts used in operationsmanagement and supply chain. <strong>SCOR</strong> is a toolset to manageand improve performance of supply chains. ISM is focusedon topics related to supplier management (overlap withDCOR)
