<strong>NUSTNEWS</strong> / OCTOBER <strong>2013</strong>3105SPORTSSMME takes lead in Intra-NUST Volleyball TournamentIntra-NUST Volleyball tournament was played between sixteams <strong>of</strong> NUST; ASAB, SEECS, SCEE, NBS, SMME <strong>and</strong> SCME.The first group comprised <strong>of</strong> ASAB, SCME <strong>and</strong> SCEE while thesecond group included SEECS, NBS <strong>and</strong> SMME. After the firstround, two teams from each group proceeded to the semifinals.The first semifinal was played between SCEE <strong>and</strong> SCMEwith SCEE taking a comprehensive win taking the first 2 sets<strong>and</strong> winning straight. Second semifinal was won by SMME inthe same fashion. The final was to be a tough one with SCEE,the defending champions against SMME.The final was played on <strong>October</strong> 10. A best <strong>of</strong> five gamesfollowed with SMME taking the first three sets <strong>and</strong> flying toa victory. Smashes by SMME proved to be consequential.SMME Captain, Waqar Khan <strong>and</strong> Smasher, Zakir khan gave anexceptional performance. Experienced player <strong>of</strong> SMME keptcontrol on their nerves <strong>and</strong> played like a unit while keepingtheir nerve <strong>and</strong> taking a well-deserved victory. DD Sports, MsRubina Anser was the chief guest for the event <strong>and</strong> gave awaythe trophy to SMME team.NUST Adventure Cluborganizes Paragliding trainingThe much awaited paragliding event took place on <strong>October</strong> 5,organized by NUST Adventure Club (NAC) in collaboration withthe Pakistan Association <strong>of</strong> Free Flying. 15 students from NUSTparticipated in the training activities. Mang, Haripur was selectedas an ideal location for the training. Col. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti,General Secretary Pakistan Association <strong>of</strong> Free Flying <strong>and</strong> PresidentPakistan Paragliding School <strong>and</strong> Club along with his supportcrew shared his tales <strong>of</strong> adventures <strong>and</strong> also demonstratedproper paragliding h<strong>and</strong>ling techniques. Fortunately weatherconditions were suitable for ground practice which was held atHBL football ground right after the session with Col Bhatti. Onthe following day at 6:30am, the group headed towards Mang,Haripur. Besides the training, the scenic beauty itself made thewhole event worthwhile. Refreshments were provided by NUSTAdventure Club <strong>and</strong> the participants were safely driven back totheir respective campuses by 8:00pm.SCEE Cricket LeagueThe eighth SCEE Cricket League (SCL) commenced on September23 with matches throughout the month <strong>of</strong> <strong>October</strong>. A total<strong>of</strong> 11 teams from different schools <strong>and</strong> batches <strong>of</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Civil<strong>and</strong> Environmental Engineering (SCEE) were divided into threegroups. The first semifinal was played between Oceans 11 <strong>and</strong>The Elevens. A target <strong>of</strong> 99 runs was given by The Elevens in8 overs. An exhilarating chase was done by Oceans who wereunfortunately defeated in the end by merely seven runs. Thesecond semifinal was even more exciting <strong>and</strong> competitive. Elevens11 gave a target <strong>of</strong> 120 in the allotted 8 overs. In the secondinnings, Civil tornadoes came really close to winning but Elevens11 kept their cool <strong>and</strong> won by 9 runs.The final <strong>of</strong> the SCL was played on <strong>October</strong> 31 between Elevens11 <strong>and</strong> The Elevens both from the 2011 batch <strong>of</strong> NUST Institute<strong>of</strong> Civil Engineering (NICE). The competition was fierce withElevens 11 batting first <strong>and</strong> giving a target <strong>of</strong> 133 runs from 10overs. Hasnain Ghuman scored 56 runs <strong>and</strong> was the top scorerfor first innings. The Elevens lost the final match with a mere 8runs <strong>and</strong> the Elevens 11 were the winners.
