NOSTRADAMUS 201222open to any whimsy of interpretation. The following published evidence from hispen begs one to consider that if ever there were a man who could mark a date asimportant as 2012 seems, one would think Nostradamus was that prophet.Nostradamus Target Dating the FutureHere then, is a sample of his dated prophecies, chronologically presented, startingfrom the year 1559 to the present.Sometime in August 1558, Nostradamus wrote a pamphlet entitled LesSignifications de l’Eclipse qui sera le 16. Septembre 1559. It clearly indicates heexpected some great catastrophe would befall France beginning in June 1559. Theeffect would last all the way through 1560, with the potential to impact unfavorablycivil and religious discord a further two years. In short, Nostradamus’ pamphletwarned that by June 1559, and until 1563, France would suffer great doubt, enormous social and religious fracture, violence, conspiracies and great profanitiesagainst God committed by the “Jovialists” (his name for French Protestants knownas Huguenots). He adds, starting in June 1559, a shadow of great fear and doubtwould cover and darken the land and cloud over the reasoning of Christian monarchsof the true (Catholic) religion. What happened? At the end of June 1559, Henry II of France received a mortal wound in ajousting accident, dying ten days later, leaving his sickly and weak-willed teenageson the successor, Francois II. Without Henry on the throne, Catholic and Protestantfactions in court were ungovernable. The first of nine religious civil wars triggered bythe Massacre at Vassy in 1562 ended with a truce and uneasy peace in 1563!***Nostradamus wrote the pamphlet in the summer of 1558, yet he had publishedvisions of life in 1559 three years earlier, presenting us with his technique of hidinga date in his words in the following quatrain:3 Q55En l’an qu’vn œil en France regnera,La court ƒera à vn bien facheux trouble:Le grand de Bloys ƒon amy tuera,Le regne mis en mal & doubte double.
