<strong>New</strong> <strong>Prague</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>Directory</strong> / <strong>June</strong> <strong>2013</strong> 29Town TeamBaseball ParksBaseball has long been referred to as the National Pastime,and each summer evidence of that can be found in the ballfields of the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Prague</strong> area.The 13-team Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league is a memberof the Minnesota Baseball Association (MBA). This amateurleague has nine teams based in the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Prague</strong> - Elko<strong>New</strong> Market - Lonsdale area, with some of the teams consideredperennial powers, having made repeated trips to the statetournament. In 2008 Elko became the first D-R-S team to wina state championship, capturing the State Class C title. Teamsplay from late April into mid-August.Many of the ballparks in the league are maintained by playersand other volunteers. Some, such as <strong>New</strong> <strong>Prague</strong> andLonsdale, are on city-owned land, while others are owned andmaintained by churches or the teams themselves.
