Schools’ brochure 2009-11From the Head teacherAlhamdulillah Al Mizan and London East Academy are making steady progress. This comes from the collaborativework of students, the staff, parents, governors the LMC and well wishers written in the community. Our students area particular strength of the Al Mizan and LEA family as ‘behaviour is outstanding and they are maturing into sensibleyoung adults ready for the next stage of their education’, and who ‘... leave the school as confident and articulateyoung people’. (Ofsted 2007)The confidence they gain come through their engagement with visitors of high profile dignitaries in LMC being, taughtby specialist teachers and active participation in extra-curricular activities. The extra-curricular activities wereenhanced this year by the CV Boosters, an organisation run by a group of young city professionals who have startedworking with a group of year 10 students voluntarily to help them acquire life skills. The schools are very grateful tothese young professionals who aim to help the community by helping its youth in their high ambition. We are pleased to report to the parents that in the academic year 2010-2011 both Al Mizan and LEA were inspectedby Ofsted. The inspectors have commented that both schools meet their aim successfully ‘To contribute towardspreparing a new generation of Quran memorisers, scholars and leaders for Europe’ and that students ‘spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding’.Al-hamdulillah we have been making progress in Islamic sciences including Tahfizul Quran as recognised by theOfsted. Our Tahfiz system is unique and effective. Though the government has scrapped the SATs for year 9 we arecontinuing to test students and have also introduced it for all other year groups in Key Stage 3. The comparison ofthe result both for Al Mizan and LEA shows significant improvements over the years. The grades of GCSE have alsosignificantly improved from 74% to 96% including English and Maths and an increasing number of students achievingA* to B grades. The schools have been making greater improvements in extra-curricular activities, especially Al Mizan school. Everyyear group has had a residential; there have been many inter-class and inter-madrasah tournaments, school trips toplaces of educational significance and a trip abroad for our graduates. At the time of writing this report teacherswere planning an Umrah trip with Al Mizan year 5 students and their parents for three weeks to Makkah andMadinah. This was only possible through the sponsorship of a philanthropist. May Allah reward him in this world andhereafter. We pray for all of our teachers, non-teaching staff, volunteers, governors, LMC staff and management and moreimportantly our students and their parents for their hard work and the support in making Al Mizan school and LondonEast Academy very successful schools. May Allah accept everyone’s effort for His cause.Musleh FaradhiHead teacher,Al Mizan Primary and London East Academy Secondary
