Swimming LessonsThe <strong>Dearborn</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong> & <strong>Parks</strong> Department offers an indoorswimming lesson program for children called, “Learn to Swim,”featuring nine levels of instruction, and a class for adults.Parent and Tot (ages six months to three years): Parent mustaccompany the child into the water.Preschool (ages three through five): Basic water and safetyskills and rules.Sea Shells (Beginner and ages six and above): Floating,submerging, breath-holding.Sea Horses (Beginner): Crawl stroke, using a kickboard,jumping into the water.Sunfish (Intermediate): Crawl stroke, breathing and jumpinginto deep water.Sting Rays (Advanced): Improve crawl stroke, backstroke, deepwater.Barracudas (Beginner): Improve crawl stroke and backstroke,diving, safety, swimming 25 yards.Dolphins (Intermediate): Elementary backstroke andbreaststroke and underwater swimming.Seals (Advanced): Sidestroke, starts and turns, distanceswimming and backstroke.Adults: Designed to accommodate adults (ages 16 and over) ofall levels of ability in a group setting.Our “Learn to Swim” program for children offers twice-a-weekclasses which meet either Monday/Wednesday orTuesday/Thursday for five weeks and a once-a-week class whichmeets Saturdays for 10 weeks. All classes are held at the FordCommunity & Performing Arts Center.Monday/Wednesday sessions:September 23-October 23October 28-December 4 (no classes November 25 and 27)January 6-February 5February 10-March 19 (no classes February 17 and 19)March 24-April 30 (no classes April 21 and 23)May 5-June 9 (no classes May 26)Tuesday-Thursday sessions:September 24-October 24October 29-December 5 (no classes November 26 and 28)January 7-February 6February 11-March 20 (no classes February 18 and 20)March 25-May 1 (no classes April 22 and 24)May 6-June 5Saturday sessions:September 28-December 7 (no classes November 30)January 11-March 22 (no classes February 22)March 29-June 14 (May 24)Call 943-2350 for our “Learn to Swim” class times and levels.Our Adult class meets Tuesday and Thursday from 7-7:30 p.m. inthe same five-week sessions listed above.Cost/session for all group swim lessons: $60, passholder; $65,residents; $75, non-residents.Register at the Service Desk of the Ford Community &Performing Arts Center.Private Swimming LessonsPrivate swim lessons are available for would-be swimmers of allages at a per lesson cost of $19 for passholders, $20 for residentsand $22 for non-residents. A minimum of two lessons is required.Patrons registering for five lessons receive a discount.
