It attempts to ascertain the procedures and techniques ofpricing two important services – water supply and solid waste disposal– followed by municipal bodies and their ability to recover the costs ofproviding these services from the users. Based on field data collectedfrom nine cities of different sizes and functional specialisation, thestudy shows that both these services are underpriced and thereforejeopardise the overall financial viability of the municipal bodies.
