Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.Description of Session and Activity Covered: The twin celebration of Deepavali and November 13 th as Janma Diwas of Parama Pujya SadyojatShankarashram Swamiji brought <strong>the</strong> Junior and Senior Prarthana Varg toge<strong>the</strong>r to learn about “OurSamskriti”. In less than an hour’s time <strong>the</strong> children used <strong>the</strong>ir imagination to colour <strong>the</strong> pictures ofDiyas, Rangoli, Kalash and Padukas, and learnt <strong>the</strong> apt shlokas <strong>for</strong> each picture.
The Junior children were given <strong>the</strong> picture of Padukas and Diyas while <strong>the</strong> seniors coloured <strong>the</strong>Rangoli, Diyas and Kalash. The significance of Rangoli was explained – that it <strong>the</strong> timelesstraditional Indian art of decorating <strong>the</strong> entrance to a house or temple and that it is followed all overIndia. Washing <strong>the</strong> entrance of <strong>the</strong> house keeps <strong>the</strong> house cool, also keeps it clean and drives awayinsects, and that Rangoli is drawn to welcome not only guests but also Goddess Lakshmi duringDeepavali. We reminded <strong>the</strong> children that outside in <strong>the</strong> portico in our <strong>Math</strong> <strong>the</strong>re is always abeautiful Rangoli drawn and it is even more special when Pujya Swamiji arrives at our <strong>Math</strong>.Some of <strong>the</strong> children said that <strong>the</strong>y also have a Rangoli at <strong>the</strong> entrance of <strong>the</strong>ir house. To offer <strong>the</strong>ir Pranams to Pujya Swamiji, <strong>the</strong> juniors colored a picture of Padukas and offered areal Bel Patri while chanting <strong>the</strong> shloka “Tridalam Triguna Kaaram”, and after coloring <strong>the</strong> Diya<strong>the</strong>y recited <strong>the</strong> shloka “Deepo Jyothi Parabrahma”. We told <strong>the</strong> children that <strong>the</strong>se shlokas arerecited during our Pujans.The class ended with Sabha Samapti Prarthana. Most of <strong>the</strong> children were going to participate in<strong>the</strong> Canara Union Children’s program later <strong>the</strong> same evening so we closed <strong>the</strong> class sharp at 5pm.
