Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.Description of Session and Activity Covered: The twin celebration of Deepavali and November 13 th as Janma Diwas of Parama Pujya SadyojatShankarashram Swamiji brought the Junior and Senior Prarthana Varg together to learn about “OurSamskriti”. In less than an hour’s time the children used their imagination to colour the pictures ofDiyas, Rangoli, Kalash and Padukas, and learnt the apt shlokas for each picture.

The Junior children were given the picture of Padukas and Diyas while the seniors coloured theRangoli, Diyas and Kalash. The significance of Rangoli was explained – that it the timelesstraditional Indian art of decorating the entrance to a house or temple and that it is followed all overIndia. Washing the entrance of the house keeps the house cool, also keeps it clean and drives awayinsects, and that Rangoli is drawn to welcome not only guests but also Goddess Lakshmi duringDeepavali. We reminded the children that outside in the portico in our Math there is always abeautiful Rangoli drawn and it is even more special when Pujya Swamiji arrives at our Math.Some of the children said that they also have a Rangoli at the entrance of their house. To offer their Pranams to Pujya Swamiji, the juniors colored a picture of Padukas and offered areal Bel Patri while chanting the shloka “Tridalam Triguna Kaaram”, and after coloring the Diyathey recited the shloka “Deepo Jyothi Parabrahma”. We told the children that these shlokas arerecited during our Pujans.The class ended with Sabha Samapti Prarthana. Most of the children were going to participate inthe Canara Union Children’s program later the same evening so we closed the class sharp at 5pm.
