BylawsBylaws: Paying Member DuesEach year, members are askedto pay their Junior League duesby March 15. Training CommitteeTraining CommitteeBy Ellen Wallace & Holly KennedyThe Training Committee is comprisedof Sharon Cassel,Leslianne Emery,Holly Kennedy, Kristina Keyton, TamaraMancini, Susan Rowley-Slowik, Ellen Wallace,and our Sustaining Advisor, ShelbyAnderson. We work together to providetraining to the members of the JuniorLeague of Lubbock. I would like to sharewith you what the Training Committee has completed overthe past few months...We were eager for our first general meeting of the year to introducethe “Elevator Speech”. What is an “Elevator Speech”you might ask? An “Elevator Speech” is a to-the-point speechabout why you are member of the Junior League of Lubbock.If you were to be ridingan elevator and a personasked, “Why are you in theJunior League of Lubbock?”you would want to be able toanswer that person’s questionwith ease and before the elevatorride was over. We all havebeen asked this question andsometimes we know exactlywhat we want to say, but weare unable to formulate a puttogetherresponse, so, duringthe September General Meeting,we all worked on our “ElevatorSpeeches”. It was a greattraining and we all should continueto practice, our “ElevatorSpeeches”.As a membership, we weretruly blessed to have ChristieDevitt speak to us about women’sbreast health and early detection of breast cancer at ourOctober General Meeting. Christie delivered such a beautifulspeech and shared her personal story of being diagnosedwith breast cancer while pregnant with her second child.Christie is proud to say that she is a breast cancer survivorand is raising a very healthy baby girl. At the end of Chris-tie’s speech she was greeted by a standingovation from the Junior League of Lubbock.The Training Committee was thrilled to beable to offer such an awesome educationalspeaker for our October General Meeting.At the November General Meeting, BeckyHudson, the president of Pilot Club of Lubbock,shared information with our membership about thenon-profit organization whose main focus is to help individualswith Autism, Alzheimer’s, Downs Syndrome and dementia.Most recently the organization has helped launch the ProjectLifesaver program here on the South Plains. Project Lifesaveris a search and rescue program intended for those withdementia, Alzheimer’s disease,Autism and Downs Syndrome.The program accomplishes thisgoal by placing personalizedradio transmitter bracelets onindividuals who are afflictedby Alzheimer’s and other RelatedMental Dysfunction Disorders(ARMD). With the help ofthe specialized bracelets, localemergency teams will be able tolocate missing persons withinan average of 30 minutes. Sofar, with the aid of the bracelets,more than 1,500 people in theUnited States have been locatedand rescued. The LubbockCounty Sheriff’s Office officiallykicked off the program in July.For more information about theProject Lifesaver program, contactthe Lubbock County Sheriff’sOffice.The Training Committee is currently working on providing trainingfor the remaining General Meetings as well as training forTraining Week. The committee members have such wonderfuland new ideas and we are looking forward to showcasing theirtalents in the months to come.
