The beginning<br />
GT Tækni ltd. was founded from the core of the<br />
Technical department of Icel<strong>and</strong>ic Alloys ltd. in<br />
April 2002 with 25 employees. The foundation<br />
was a result of an outsourcing process within<br />
Icel<strong>and</strong>ic Alloys ltd. <strong>and</strong> its Parent Company,<br />
ELKEM ASA.<br />
The service that GT Tækni provides today <strong>is</strong> with<br />
in <strong>main</strong>tenance, production <strong>and</strong> spare parts<br />
h<strong>and</strong>ling, sales, purchasing <strong>and</strong> projects. The<br />
service can be divided into three <strong>main</strong><br />
departments; Mechanical, Electrical <strong>and</strong> Sales <strong>and</strong><br />
Spare Part Stock.<br />
Since the startup day a lot of water has passed<br />
under the bridge. Late in 2004 the number of<br />
employees was well over 40 all having extensive<br />
practice in Plant <strong>main</strong>tenance.<br />
The service of GT Tækni <strong>is</strong> very broad<br />
• Maintenance <strong>and</strong> repair service within<br />
mechanical-, vehicle- <strong>and</strong> electrical field<br />
• New constructions, renewal <strong>and</strong><br />
implementing mechanical <strong>and</strong> electrical<br />
equipments<br />
• Production of electrode mantel <strong>and</strong> high<br />
pressure hoses<br />

Within the mechanical department our employees have very good knowledge in<br />
Crushing <strong>and</strong> Screening equipments, Transport equipments, Hydraulic Systems <strong>and</strong> in<br />
General Plant Maintenance

Mechanical department<br />
The mechanical department <strong>is</strong> divided into four<br />
areas. Mechanical work shop, Metal work shop,<br />
Vehicle work shop <strong>and</strong> Production area where<br />
metal electrode casing for Icel<strong>and</strong>ic Alloys are<br />
produced.<br />
The area that GT Tækni has for the mechanical<br />
department <strong>is</strong> a hall of 1.000 m2 <strong>and</strong> 10 m height.<br />
There are four large doors high. There are two<br />
overhead cranes of 5 tons each <strong>and</strong> one 16 tons<br />
lift in the Vehicle workshop. The workshops are<br />
well equipped for all mechanical <strong>and</strong> electrical<br />
work <strong>and</strong> <strong>main</strong>tenance.<br />
Production<br />
In our production line the Company produces<br />
annually 1.000 pcs of metal electrode casings.<br />
The dimension of each casing <strong>is</strong> 2m in height <strong>and</strong><br />
Electrical department<br />
The Electrical department <strong>is</strong> divided into two areas,<br />
the Electric shop <strong>and</strong> the Electronic shop. The<br />
area that GT Tækni has for the electrical<br />
department <strong>is</strong> approximately 115 m2. The Electric<br />
shop <strong>is</strong> equipped with 1 tons overhead crane <strong>and</strong> a<br />
large door. The workshops are well equipped for<br />
all electrical work high or low voltages, electronic<br />
work <strong>and</strong> <strong>main</strong>tenance.<br />
The electrical department has license to operate in<br />
general electrical work (B-license) <strong>and</strong> in the high<br />
voltage electrical work (A- license). The electrical<br />
1,8 m in diameter.<br />

In our Vehicle shop nothing <strong>is</strong> impossible.<br />
Repair of cars, fork lifts, trucks <strong>and</strong> everything<br />
on wheels or belts from bicycles to over 40 tons<br />
container truck lift. We have special knowledge<br />
in hydraulic systems in stocking cars. The<br />
stoking cars are rebuilt in our Vehicle shop so<br />
they can take the load when stoking in extreme<br />
hot environment in the FeSi furnaces.<br />
In the Vehicle shop there long experience in servicing :<br />
Hyster – Caterpillar – Kalmar – Case – Still - Volvo – Komatzu – Brokk – Clark<br />
department also has the responsibility <strong>and</strong><br />
licenses for all electrical equipments in the<br />
Hvalfjördur tunnel.<br />
The electrical department h<strong>and</strong>les all general<br />
repair <strong>and</strong> <strong>main</strong>tenance as well as renewal <strong>and</strong><br />
rebuilding of electrical equipments.<br />
The electrical department serves the whole<br />
electrical spectrum within the heavy industry,<br />
from the low voltages to the extreme high<br />
voltage end of the industry.<br />
In the electrical department there <strong>is</strong> much experience in working with:<br />
ASEA – Siemens – <strong>and</strong> ABB high voltage equipments – PLC- A <strong>and</strong> B license

Special knowledge<br />
Extreme heat <strong>and</strong> floating metal<br />
Decades of experience lies within the company in<br />
servicing equipments related to heavy industry.<br />
There <strong>is</strong> also special knowledge in plant<br />
<strong>main</strong>tenance, planned <strong>and</strong> preventative<br />
<strong>main</strong>tenance, repair <strong>and</strong> building of new<br />
equipment.<br />
Due to the extreme environment that the<br />
equipments are operated in at Icel<strong>and</strong>ic Alloys, a<br />
special knowledge has developed in how to<br />
operate <strong>and</strong> prevent the equipments from tearing<br />
dust, extreme heat <strong>and</strong> metal that reaches the<br />
temperature of 1.700°C.<br />
The tunnel of Hvalfjörður<br />
GT Tækni h<strong>and</strong>les <strong>and</strong> provides all the technical<br />
service that the Hvalfjördur tunnel needs. Th<strong>is</strong><br />
covers all from general <strong>main</strong>tenance <strong>and</strong> repair to<br />
painting <strong>and</strong> asphalting the road surface. In fact<br />
everything that concerns equipment, renewing<br />
equipments <strong>and</strong> <strong>main</strong>tenance in its broadest<br />
aspect. The company also provides callout service<br />
24/7 for safety reasons.<br />
Material sale <strong>and</strong> stock<br />
Material sales <strong>and</strong> stock holding are divided into two<br />
fields: Purchasing of spare parts <strong>and</strong> stock holding<br />
for Icel<strong>and</strong>ic Alloys ltd <strong>and</strong> GT Tækni own material<br />
purchasing, stock holding <strong>and</strong> sales. The material<br />
sales from GT Tækni spare part stock <strong>is</strong> <strong>main</strong>ly<br />
related to machinery <strong>and</strong> el-material. Also included<br />
in th<strong>is</strong> field are the production of high pressure<br />
hoses <strong>and</strong> equipments together with rentals of tools<br />
<strong>and</strong> equipments.<br />
Belt conveyers<br />
GT Tækni has excellent experience in<br />
<strong>main</strong>taining belt conveyers, crushing<br />
equipments, screening equipments <strong>and</strong><br />
repairing <strong>and</strong> vulcanizing rubber conveyers’<br />
belts.<br />
The specialization in crushing- <strong>and</strong> screening<br />
equipments <strong>is</strong> high <strong>and</strong> in its <strong>main</strong>tenance <strong>and</strong><br />
adjustment. Equipments <strong>and</strong> special<br />
knowledge <strong>is</strong> within the company to assemble<br />
rubber conveyer belts with cold gluing or hot<br />
vulcanizing.<br />
Assembling a rubber conveyer belt dem<strong>and</strong>s<br />
d<strong>is</strong>cipline work methods <strong>and</strong> specialized<br />
equipments. The dimension of the rubber belts<br />
<strong>is</strong> from 50 cm to 120 cm <strong>and</strong> from two layers<br />
up to four layers.<br />
