COACH EDUCATIONLevel I CO:Khing Courses were held at Kurri Kurri,Valentine and Marathon Stadium. The Coaching Panelassisted the Group 21 Coaching Director conduct a Level ICourse at Singleton. We again conducted a CoachingCourse for school teachers as well as one for PhysicalEducation students at the Hunter Institute of HigherEducation. Regrettably, a small minority of clubsattempted to flaunt the system by employing unqualifiedsmff. All were detected and will be placed under closescrutiny as the Newcastle Rugby League conducts as auditof its active coaches in March 1993.The Level I Sports Trainers courses have been wellreceived with over 120 people attending the fOUf coursesheld thus far. A major highlight has been the "guest SportsTrainer", where a successful candidate from one of thecourses is invited to spend a week with the Knights bothat training and on match day. The program has been wellreceived by all participants and attracted local mediapublicity. Chris Kozaczynski has done an enormous jobco·ordinating the Sports Trainers program.DEVELOPMENT AND COACHING COUNCILACTIVITIESThe work being done at the "grass roots" level is mostsatisfying. The number of participants at Mini and Modlevel is a credit to both the Newcastle and Maitland JuniorAssociations. The OAK.Buttercup Easter Vacation Coaching Clinicsagain brought together players, coaches andadministrators from our junior clubs across the HunterValle)'. A totOlI of 530 youngsters attended the clinics atOlympic Park, Muswellbrook and Marathon Stadium. Ourclub was well represented at both venues and I thank theplayers who attended.Coaching Forums have been conducted at Kurri Kurri,Cessnock and Raymond Terrace. The Coaching Forumprogram has been used by the N.S.\V Rugby LeagueAcademy and distributed across the State. The annual Women in Rugby League Skills day wasattended by 20 participants and received local mediaexposure. The addition of Mark Sargenr and Paul Harragon to theprogram added a new dimension to school liaison andother development activities.Steve Fulmer and Ashley Gordon leave the Club after fiveseasons of outstanding service. Universally popular, theyhave assisted the Development Office on so manyoccasions, their knowledge, enthusiasm and personalityalways appreciated. We wish them well in the funlre.Throughout the year Adrian Drunker and Greg Flemingwere always willing to lend a hand. The co·operation ofour senior players and coaching staff, given the demandson their time, is more than pleasing. The success of the Senior Club can be largely auributed tothe First Grade Coach.
