To do that, I point my attention specifically toward the way Nollywood hasbeen discussed and represented in documentaries, festival retrospectives and photographicexhibitions over the past few years. In a dynamic similar to the one observed in the first chapter ofthe section, the international discourse on Nollywood has been oscillating between criticism andfascination, and the tension between these poles has importantly influenced the way the industry hastransformed. In many cases the representation of the video industry that has circulated within theglobal cinema arena has been contested. But the reaction it has provoked has had an interesting rolein pushing a section of the industry toward the new commercial, aesthetic and narrative strategiesdescribed in the previous section.92
