The most common causeof iron deficiency anaemia is due toinadequate intake of iron in diet,physiologic demands of pregnancy andrapid growth and loss due to parasiticinfections. Other prevalent causes ofanaemia include malaria, chronicinfections and nutritional deficiencies ofvitamin A, folate and Vitamin b-12. Thestudy reveals that 25.57 % of patients havebeen suffering from iron deficient anaemia.The study reveals that iron deficiencyanaemia is most frequent in the female agegroup of 21-40, that the rate of incidence isvery much associated with pregnancy.Hemoglobin and Total iron has been foundto correlate directly with the incidence ofIron deficiency anaemia, although ferritinand total iron binding capacity do notpossess direct correlation ship with theincidence. This finding has significantclinical importance, as replenishment ofiron only can eradicate the incidence ofiron deficient anaemia to a significantJournal of Nobel Medical College (2011), Vol. N.1 43
