Q: Can a husband and wife each vote for their membership?
A: NO. Each member is enti tled to one vote. A husband and wife are
considered one membership. If both names are listed on the membership,
either can vote but not both.
Q: Can any person receive more than one ballot & vote more than once?
A: YES. Each member is enti tled to one vote at WRT’s Annual Meeti ng &
can cast up to two votes as a voti ng representati ve of up to a total of two
corporati ons, partnerships, governmental agencies, organizati ons, etc.
Q: I have three phone numbers. Can I vote three ti mes?
A: NO. The Cooperati ve Bylaws allow one vote per member without
regard for how many lines a member has.
Q: Can a member vote for Directors using an absentee ballot?
A: YES. Voti ng for Directors using an absentee ballot is allowed under
Cooperati ve Bylaws. Members may request an absentee ballot through
5:00PM CT on June 7, 2012. (see details on the right)
Q: Can an organizati on, corporati on, partnership, government enti ty,
etc. vote by absentee ballot?
A: YES. The designated voti ng representati ve of these members may
vote by absentee ballot.
Q: Can a member vote by proxy for another member?
A: NO. Proxy voti ng for another member is not allowed under Cooperati
ve Bylaws.
Q: Can I register under my church or for another organizati on**?
A: Members can register on behalf of a church or organizati on provided
that person has a properly completed WRT voter designati on form authorizing
the person registering to vote. **this also applies for elected offi cials
of the county/city; corporati ons, partnerships, etc.
Q: Who can authorize someone to vote for churches, corporati ons,
governmental enti ti es, organizati ons, etc.?
A: Only offi cers of the enti ty may designate someone to vote for them.
Q: Who can authorize someone to vote for a partnership?
A: Any of the partners may designate someone to vote for the partnership.

ABSENTEE
Voti ng Informati on
Any member may vote by absentee ballot.This
includes businesses, organizati ons, governmental
agencies, etc hereaft er referred to as
non person members. They may request an absentee
ballot through 5:00 PM CT June 7, 2012.
Absentee ballots may be obtained by: calling
748-2211; sending request to WRT, PO Box
467, Hazen ND 58545; emailing WRT at WRT@
westriv.com; or by stopping in person at WRT's
Main offi ce in Hazen.
Members may request absentee ballots for
their membership only. Non person members
can have offi cers or other authorized persons
request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots
requested by phone, mail or email will be sent
to the billing address of the requesti ng member.
Members requesti ng absentee ballots in
person will have to show a valid photo ID if the
member is not recognized by the employee
issuing the ballot. Non person members will
need to designate a voti ng representati ve if
they wish to vote either in person or by absentee
ballot.
To insure the confi denti ality of a member’s
vote the member will receive a ballot, a ballot
envelope and a mail in envelope. Aft er a member
votes, the absentee ballot must be placed
in an envelope with the word “Ballot” on it.
This envelope must be placed in the envelope
addressed to WRT. On the back of this envelope
the member’s name and member number
will already be entered. There is also a line for
the member’s signature. The member must
sign the envelope for the ballot to be valid. The
designated voti ng representati ve for non person
members must sign for those members for
the ballot to be valid.
Absentee ballots will be available through 5:00
PM CT June 7, 2012. To be counted an absentee
ballot must be in possession of the Credenti als
and Voti ng Committ ee prior to voti ng being declared
closed at the Annual Meeti ng on Friday,

Dale J. Heid was raised in the
McLaughlin, SD area and has lived
in i Beulah, ND for the past 18 years.

and later as a full-ti me combinati on
ttechnician. h i He started out in the southern
exchanges and later moved to covering the Beulah, Zap,
and Golden Valley area exchanges. Dale now ranches
and operates his own business, HYCO Fencing & Seeding
Company. Heid, and his wife, Melody, have been married
for 37 years and have three sons, two daughters and six
grandchildren. He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic
Church, Beulah.

Misti Hummel was raised in Turtle
Lake, ND and has lived in Elgin, ND
for the past 21 years. Hummel attended

in Bismarck, ND. Soon aft er, she

which she conti nues to own and oper-
ate today. Hummel and her husband, Allen,
are both small business owners and are acti ve in the
community. She is currently the president of the board of
directors for Dakota Hill Housing Corp., and is serving on
the Economic Bett erment Board. Hummel has also taken
part in the Elgin Celebrati on Committ ee. She has two
grown step-daughters.

Reich is a member of the Knife River Care Center Foundati
on Board. He has served on the Mercer County Crop
Improvement Associati on, Mercer County Landowners,
Knife River Care Center Board and the Beulah Farmers
Union Oil Company Board of Directors. Reich is an acti ve
member of the Prairie View Church of God.

Nick Vollmuth is the current Director

Cooperati Coop ves Assoc. Nati onal Member
Service Committ ee and received the NTCA "Excellence
in Leadership" award. Vollmuth and his wife,
Debbie, live in rural Selfridge. He has two grown children
and one grandson. Vollmuth is a third generati on farmer/
rancher on the family homestead. He is a director for
the Selfridge Rural Fire District, president of the Selfridge
School Board and an acti ve member of the Shields/Selfridge
Sportsman Club.
Harley R. Overseth is the current Director for District 6. He has been the recipient of the Nati onal
Telecommunicati ons Cooperati ve Associati on’s Excellence in Leadership Award. Overseth currently
serves as the representati ve for WRT on the South Dakota Associati on of Telephone Cooperati ves
Inc. Overseth was born and raised in Mobridge, SD and conti nues to reside there with his wife Carrie.
He is a partner in the Real Estate fi rm of Key Real Estate in Mobridge. Overseth is acti ve in the com-
mmunity
of Mobridge and has served on several boards and committ ees, as well as serving as the City
of Mobridge’s M Zoning Offi cer.

WRT Mobridge & McLaughlin Area Updates
Jerry Graff has been a true telephone man for many years. He started in the phone industry in
1984 for Northwestern Bell working with open wire and poles. Jerry then worked for Valley Telecommunicati
ons for 29 years, plus owned his own business for two years. He knows the industry
and the countryside bett er than most. Jerry also knows the well-traveled road from Mobridge to
McLaughlin and back again, as he’s been making that trip almost daily since 1998.
Although Jerry will sti ll see a great deal of windshield ti me, his commute has been a bit shorter
since April 2012. With recent reti rements, Jerry was able to make the move from McLaughlin
to Mobridge’s Combinati on Technician positi on.
Jerry and his wife, Diana, are long-ti me residents of Mobridge, SD. They have one daughter
and one son, as well as fi ve grandchildren. Jerry enjoys hunti ng, fi shing, gun collecti ng, woodworking
and yardwork... and his new shorter commute to work!
Devon Mitt leider is getti ng back to his roots with a litt le help from WRT. Mitt leider moved
back to his hometown of McLaughlin, SD and began working at WRT in July 2007. For over 18
years, he had worked throughout the United States for Nortel Networks - a company quite
familiar to WRT’s Central Offi ce/Network Department.
For the past fi ve years, Devon has been working in the McLaughlin/Mobridge,
SD area as a WRT Installer Repair Technician. Although he worked closely
with the CO/Network Department, it was a recent reti rement that
helped transiti on Devon back to his true calling.
As of April 2, 2012, Devon began reporti ng to the
McLaughlin Central offi ce as WRT’s newest Network
Technician. He brings with him experience and
knowledge for the positi on, as well as the
area. Devon and his wife, Shelly, enjoy being closer to
family. They have one son and one daughter. Devon
enjoys being a husband & father, as well as
riding his Harley.

Jordan Berg

doing - for Jordan Berg it’s a combinati on of both.
Jordan Berg joined WRT in March 2012 as the new Installati
on Repair Technician for the Beulah, Golden Valley & Zap service areas.
Jordan, a Carrington, ND nati ve, learned a great deal about telecoms and cooperati ves from
his father and Dakota Central Telecom Chief Plant Offi cer, Paul Berg. Although introduced to the industry
at an early age, Jordan learned a great deal by doing it on his own. He att ended college at Bismarck State
College & MSCTC-Wadena for technical training. Jordan also gained a great deal of hands on experience working at
Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson as a constructi on observer - fi ber tester for 2½ years. He then took a job at Reservati on Telephone
Coop. in Parshall, ND working as a Combinati on Technician before joining WRT.
In his spare ti me, Jordan enjoys hunti ng, fi shing and camping - a perfect fi t for his new service territory and the Lake
Sakakawea area! Congratulati ons Jordan & Welcome to WRT!

WRT will conti nue doing upgrades with 65 miles of new fi ber opti c cable throughout our service area, including
to numerous Verizon/AT&T Wireless towers located in our area and several power plants. WRT’s Network Department
will also be involved in upgrades that will provide for more Gigabit Ethernet capacity within WRT’s core
network.
