RULES & REGULaTI NS<br />
2011 <strong>Schwarzkopf</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> awards<br />
Period: March 2010 to March 2011<br />
1. Entrants must have worked in Australian or New Zealand<br />
hairdressing and related industries from March 2010<br />
to March 2011 (awards period). They must also have<br />
documentation of their qualification available on request.<br />
2. All award categories are open to Australian and New<br />
Zealand salons, except Australian <strong>Hair</strong>dresser of the Year<br />
and New Zealand <strong>Hair</strong>dresser of the Year as indicated.<br />
3. Submissions will only qualify when completed on the<br />
<strong>Schwarzkopf</strong> <strong>Professional</strong> <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> Questionnaire<br />
template following all rules and regulations as indicated.<br />
4. Photography must be produced in the awards period –<br />
March 2010 to March 2011. This photography must not have<br />
been published prior to preliminary judging in April 2011,<br />
except for Session Stylist and Salon Design.<br />
5. All of the work submitted for the <strong>Schwarzkopf</strong> <strong>Professional</strong><br />
<strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> must be solely the work of the entrant,<br />
except where specified. A statutory declaration will need to<br />
be signed by all entrants.<br />
6. All work is accepted in good faith and any entrants found to<br />
be abusing this will be automatically disqualified.<br />
7. You may enter as many categories as you like (dependent<br />
on qualifications), however you may only enter one of the<br />
following: Australian and/or New Zealand <strong>Hair</strong>dresser of the<br />
Year OR New Creative Force.<br />
8. The photography submitted for your <strong>Awards</strong> collection, or<br />
any photographs from the same photo shoot MUST NOT<br />
appear anywhere in the QUESTIONNAIRE, unless requested.<br />
This does not apply to the Session Stylist category.<br />
9. Not all categories require artistic photography, so ensure<br />
that you read the submission questions carefully in order to<br />
meet the correct criteria.<br />
10. The model release and relevant declaration forms must be<br />
completed and signed by all parties and be included in your<br />
submission.<br />
11. The deadline for entries is final. Entries will NOT be accepted<br />
after the stated date and time and instant disqualification<br />
will apply. Submissions due 5pm, Tuesday 8 March 2011.<br />
12. Entries not meeting the stipulated criteria will automatically<br />
be disqualified.<br />
13. It is your responsibility to package your submission<br />
properly so that it is not damaged in the courier or postage<br />
system. <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> Australia accepts no responsibility for<br />
submissions which may become lost in the mail and will not<br />
be liable for any loss or damage to submissions.<br />
14. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be<br />
entered into.<br />
15. Any nominee who is disqualified will be notified.<br />
16. No employees of Reed Exhibitions, <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> Australia or<br />
families can enter or judge the <strong>Schwarzkopf</strong> <strong>Professional</strong><br />
<strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> <strong>Awards</strong>.<br />
17. Finalists’ photographic work in each category will be<br />
displayed at <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong>, 11-13 June 2011 at the Sydney<br />
Convention and Exhibition Centre.<br />
18. Ten finalists will be selected for Australian <strong>Hair</strong>dresser<br />
of the Year and four finalists will be selected in all other<br />
categories, unless the judges deem that four do not qualify.<br />
In addition, six special Judges’ Recognition <strong>Awards</strong> will be<br />
selected in the categories of Apprentice/Student of the Year,<br />
New Creative Force and Colour Technician of the Year.<br />
19. Finalists will be notified and published on<br />
www.hairexpoaustralia.com/awards<br />
20. If you require your submission to be returned, you must<br />
supply a self-addressed, Australia Post ‘Express Post<br />
– Guaranteed Next Day Delivery’ satchel, which is large<br />
enough for your submission. New Zealand entries please<br />
enclose a pre-paid international courier/post satchel.<br />
Submissions will be returned after 13 June 2011. If you<br />
do not include this satchel in your submission package,<br />
your submission will NOT be returned. <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> will retain<br />
submissions for 3 months only, after which they will<br />
regretfully be destroyed.<br />
21. <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> Australia reserves the right to publish<br />
photography for publicity purposes.<br />
22. Entry to the <strong>Awards</strong> Gala Dinner is strictly by ticket only.<br />
THE QUESTIONNaIRE<br />
23. Entrants MUST complete the answers on the template<br />
provided. Entrants will receive an email with the template<br />
once your nomination form has been received. The<br />
questionnaire must be completed in full to qualify.<br />
24. Your submission must be completed and bound into one<br />
booklet, no larger than A4 in size. Your submission must be<br />
presented on the questionnaire template provided by <strong>Hair</strong><br />
<strong>Expo</strong> including supporting documentation.<br />
25. When illustrating the work you have published, do not<br />
include in your submission any photos that are not your own<br />
work (e.g. magazine covers) or your photographic collection,<br />
unless requested. All photos used must be accompanied by<br />
correct credits and date of publication.<br />
26. Testimonials must be supplied on letterhead, where<br />
applicable, and cannot be from a representative of a<br />
product company.<br />
THE PHOTOGRaPHIC COLLECTION<br />
27. You are required to submit one set of six photographic<br />
prints, except for the Business Performance of the Year,<br />
Educator of the Year, Education Organisation of the Year and<br />
Excellence in Marketing awards. Salon Design submissions<br />
must submit two sets of prints, one set to be mounted<br />
for viewing in the gallery (specs below). The other set will<br />
remain with your questionnaire for the judging process. This<br />
set must NOT be mounted.<br />
28. Colour Technician of the Year – wigs and hairpieces are NOT<br />
allowed in this category. A statutory declaration to confirm<br />
no wigs or hairpieces were used is required. A ‘before shot’<br />
of all models is to be submitted with your submission.<br />
29. The photographs should include a minimum of four different<br />
models with a variation in styling represented throughout<br />
the six shots to form a collection.<br />
30. <strong>Professional</strong> photographers, makeup artists and stylists<br />
may be used.<br />
31. Images do not have to be head and shoulders but they do<br />
need to focus on the hair.<br />
32. All images should be shot as one collection, with new<br />
season directional hair fashion as the underlying focus.<br />
33. Photographs may be black and white or colour except for<br />
Colour Technician of the Year where only colour images are<br />
accepted. The hair should be commercial, wearable and<br />
reflect emerging hair fashion trends.<br />
34. As the photography is judged anonymously, no branding is<br />
permitted in the photograph, except for Salon Design and<br />
Session Stylist of the Year.<br />
35. All photographs must be A4 in size presented on mount<br />
cardboard exactly to the print trim. No mount cardboard<br />
border, 3mm max thickness – NO FOAM CORE, WOOD, CORE<br />
FLUTE OR MDF.<br />
36. All photographs must be portrait in format, except for Salon<br />
Design which must be ALL landscape or ALL portrait.<br />
37. Full photography credits are to be provided on a label on<br />
the back of the mount board, i.e. the category entered,<br />
hairstylist, colourist, makeup artist, photographer and<br />
number each photograph in the preferred order of display.<br />
38. Include one CD of your photographic collection in high<br />
resolution 300 dpi RGB & CMYK JPEG format plus your<br />
photography credits in a word document. Clearly mark the<br />
CD with your details plus thumbnails of your collection on<br />
the CD Cover. Include your name on the digital file codes for<br />
easy identification e.g. 1-Jane_Smith.jpg, 2-Jane_Smith.<br />
jpg, etc. The CD will be kept by <strong>Hair</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> Australia for use in<br />
publicity for your collection.
