Parol Making<br />
Parol Making led by Jack and Nenita Stout, at right, held on Nov. 19, <strong>2011</strong> at John L. Scott<br />
University Place. A yearly cultural event, this fun-filled activity for both young and old was<br />
sponsored by the <strong>Filipino</strong> <strong>Community</strong> Alliance (FCA) to promote <strong>Filipino</strong> heritage. The finished<br />
parols will be on display on Dec. 18, <strong>2011</strong> during the group’s Christmas Party when winners <strong>of</strong><br />
this year’s parol making contest are announced.<br />
COFAO Meeting<br />
The Coalition <strong>of</strong> <strong>Filipino</strong> <strong>American</strong> Organizations (COFAO), led by 2010 Tagumpay Awards<br />
winner Connie Samson, its President, 3rd left, held its recent meeting on Nov. 19, <strong>2011</strong> at the<br />
Cebu Restaurant in Olympia, WA. This meeting was hosted by the <strong>Filipino</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>South</strong> <strong>Puget</strong> <strong>Sound</strong> led by its able President, Ted Zarate, standing 6th from right. The 3-yearold<br />
<strong>Filipino</strong> <strong>Community</strong> Alliance at this meeting <strong>of</strong>ficially joined the Coalition, which currently is<br />
comprised by 13 <strong>Filipino</strong> community organizations in the Pacific Northwest.<br />

Oh, Yes They Are Doctors!<br />
Oh, Yes, TheY Are DOcTOrs! The <strong>Filipino</strong> <strong>American</strong> Physicians <strong>of</strong> Washington (FAPWA) and<br />
spouses at their HALLOWEEN COSTUME FUNDRAISING EVENT held on October 29, <strong>2011</strong><br />
at the mansion <strong>of</strong> Drs. Alvin and Marilyn Nayan in Browns Point, Tacoma. Thirty people came<br />
and raised $1,500 for the group’s next medical mission planned for February 1, 2012 in Quezon<br />
City and February 4-5 in Sta. Margarita, Western Samar. Dr. Marilyn Nayan, Director <strong>of</strong><br />
Occupational Medicine at Auburn Medical Center, is FAPWA’s current president.<br />
BOAWAS Fundraising<br />
The <strong>of</strong>ficers and members <strong>of</strong> the Bohol Association <strong>of</strong> Washington State (BOAWAS) at a<br />
fundraising event held recently at a restaurant in Everett. The group was led by its President,<br />
Nat Calacat and wife, Nellie, Caloy Cagaanan, former President <strong>of</strong> CONBUSAC and<br />
wife, Mely Cagaanan.<br />
PSHS Veterans Day Parade<br />
The group representing the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society in their different uniforms<br />
during the Veterans Day parade in Auburn, Washington on November 5, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
Despedida Party for Two<br />

and Pepe Salamanca were the host in their residence in Lakewood, WA for Chique Clavecilla<br />
