The thrill of dressing/<strong>the</strong> androgyne way<br />
Some transsexual people get a big thrill out of crossdressing<br />
during <strong>the</strong> period prior to changing <strong>the</strong>ir sex. I<br />
cross-dressed thoroughly and enthusiastically for many<br />
years myself. O<strong>the</strong>rs cross-dress, but only because it feels<br />
comfortable and n<strong>at</strong>ural. Th<strong>at</strong>’s <strong>the</strong> way I feel about dressing<br />
as a woman now; but, of course, it is not cross-dressing for<br />
me anymore. Cross-dressing would be if I tried to pass as a<br />
man. Yuck!<br />
On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, many transsexual people have no<br />
interest in <strong>the</strong> clo<strong>the</strong>s aspect of it <strong>at</strong> all, or in strongly typing<br />
as ei<strong>the</strong>r gender. They like to affect an androgynous look—<br />
nei<strong>the</strong>r identifiably male or female. These folks are often<br />
delighted when people seem confused about whe<strong>the</strong>r to call<br />
<strong>the</strong>m “Sir” or “Ma’am.” Over time <strong>the</strong>y find th<strong>at</strong> more and<br />
more people seem to call <strong>the</strong>m by a new set of pronouns,<br />
and <strong>the</strong>y say, “Hmmm, I guess I’m a woman [or a man]<br />
now.” These two different approaches to migr<strong>at</strong>ing one’s<br />
gender present<strong>at</strong>ion usually end up <strong>at</strong> about <strong>the</strong> same place<br />
eventually, a more-or-less average, very passable<br />
appearance. Androgynous types of transsexuals very<br />
gradually change from presenting as one gender, to<br />
androgynous, to <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r gender. We cross-dressing types<br />
