5BIO SECURITY RULESHARRISON & HETHERINGTON LIMITED, BORDERWAY MART, CARLISLENotice to all Visitors and TradersPlease read and observe the following:● Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival.● All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site.●●●All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site. All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance.Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading.●Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has beenissued by the main office.● No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale.●●●Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock.Wash hands thoroughly when leaving pennage areas. Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times. Our on site Biosecurity Officer, Stuart Graham, will only be too pleased to give you assistance.Profit from EBVSA great new tool is now available to beef producers and breeders to help them select productivebreeding animals with confidence. This development comes as part of MLC’s “Beefbreeder” Service.Records on breeding animals are now presented as ESTIMATED BREEDING VALUES (EBVs)and these describe the animal and how it will breed. EBVs are the recognised method fordescribing beef cattle performance and are now widely used in many leading cattle countries.EBVs are quoted in the measuring units e.g. kg.These are various key features:● All Comparisons are against a base figure for the breed. The average of the breed in1980 was chosen, where the average is described as zero.● Any animal with a plus value is above the breed base (heavier, fatter, more muscled, etc.) and any animal with a minus value is below the breed base (lighter, less fat or lessmuscular, etc.)● The EBVs are built up from records on the animal concerned, its parents, offspring (ifany) and other relatives. So, they are very robust. Using EBVs takes out the confusingeffects of different managements, herds, seasons and years, so that animals can becompared across a breed with confidence.Measures with very low (less than 20 per cent) levels of accuracy are not published.
