The Alpaca Stud, formed in 2005 with the small nucleusherds of Nick Harrington-Smith and John Potts plus themanagement of the Grupo Inca Peruvian herd. Focusedfrom the very start on sourcing and utilising the very best ofworld genetics to expand the core herd, and creating asource of “Gold Standard” genetics within Europe. Johnand Nick (with a lifetime in livestock farming) have been able, in such a relatively short space of time,to take The Alpaca Stud from strength to strength. In 2006 a small but select group of North American stock was imported, amongst which was the nowhighly renowned and much respected Dovecote Jaquinto. This was to prove an inspired selection, and the subsequent cornerstone of the Huacaya breeding programme. In 2010 and 2013, furtheradditions of males from the famous Snowmass herd in North America were added to complimentand improve the existing Huacaya bloodlines, adding such names to pedigrees as Snowmass’sQuechua, Matrix, Conopa, and the great Legacy himself. For the Suri programme there is onecoloured male that stands out above all others, and that is MacGyver from Great Lakes Ranch. HisGrandson was added to our Suri breeding programme.Since its foundation The Alpaca Stud has been committed to the British fibre industry, and ourHuacaya fibre is now much valued by the UK’s main fibre buyers for its consistency and high qualityacross the whole herd. Later in 2013 we ourselves will be putting large amounts of Suri fibre throughprocessing in order to move Suri fibre development forward on a commercial scale in the UK.The Alpaca Stud has always enjoyed an enviable show record across both Huacaya and Suri, for thelast 3 years holding one of the British Alpaca Futurity Herdsire Championships. In 2011, both Suriand Huacaya trophies were taken by our Herdsires, all trophies being garnered from the resultsachieved by the sire’s progeny, a testament to the pre-potency of those self-same sires. 2013 sawwhat was probably our best show season ever, with Nyetimber taking Futurity Herdsire champion,Synergist tying on points with the eventual champion, and also Yves Jacques taking Supreme at theAlpaca Fiesta. That said, one of our prime objectives was achieved, and that was for our clients toenjoy real success by using our genetics. When reviewing client’s results it is evident that they haveenjoyed huge success in both Halter and Fleece shows over the last two years. We take thisopportunity to congratulate them, and thank them, for having faith in our Herdsires and our advice. The Alpaca Stud Objective:To breed alpacas that represent the breed type at its best, be that Suri or Huacaya. Our alpacas mustbe of the highest quality, with good health, sound conformation and genetically predisposed towardsheavy cutting weights and longevity of fine fibre production, so often described as “lingeringfineness”. Alpacas bred for COMMERCIAL fibre production, not just the show ring.“Bozedown Alpacas” is a name synonymous with highest qualityand reliability. We are genuinely enthusiastic about the alpacas webreed and sell. Bozedown Alpacas is proud to be a founding member of the British Alpaca FuturityGroup, organisers of Europe’s most prestigious alpaca show. From small beginnings back in 1989 Joy Whitehead steadily built Bozedown Alpacas, then in 1998personally selected the first Peruvian alpacas to arrive in Europe, triggering a meteoric rise in demandfor quality alpacas. Niece Mary-Jo Smith joined her in 2000, and together they have proved a strongteam in selection and breeding alpacas.Alongside further Peruvian Selections, which have included 3 Futurity Champion Studs, Galaxy,Dazzler and Talisman, key genetics have also been sourced since 2000 from the renowned Jolimontherd in Australia to be used as building blocks in our Bozedown pedigrees, e.g. Jolimont Sculptorand Jolimont Conquistador among others. More recently Herdsires Jolimont Reagan and JolimontRodrigo have made a valuable contribution, and premium pedigrees from Magical Farms in the USAare also adding further potency to our breeding lines.Bozedown Alpacas Objective:Our breeding aim is to build improvement into each successive generation. Having achieved a firmbasis of healthy strong-framed huacayas and suris with excellent conformation and advanced fleecetypes; we now concentrate on breeding further advancements in fleece fineness and fleece weightsto satisfy a growing strong fibre industry. The second Alpaca Classic auction includes some of the best breeding ever produced at BozedownAlpacas, including prizewinners and champions in their own right. Michael Anthony’s herd wasdeveloped using pure Accoyo genetics, and it is this careful matching of genetics that has producedsuch an attractive female. This is very robust female, with tremendous substance of bone, idealproportions, and the all-important body capacity needed in our breeding females, presents as near aperfect phenotype as you are likely to find. It is no surprise that her fleece qualities match herphenotypic standards, being soft to hand, with excellent uniformity of fine fleece across the body, avery pleasing architecture and all of this allied to good staple length and brightness. Constance is anoutstanding coloured girl with the only difficult decision being if she is light brown or dark fawn! Wehave called her light brown but many might argue!Constance comes to the market pregnant from one of our Blue Blood males, Alpaca Stud Nyetimber.Nyetimber is now a senior male who during his show career has garnered over 25 broad ribbonswhich we believe is more than any other alpaca in Europe, and he is a grey! This year however ourconfidence in him was vindicated when he gained the accolade of British Alpaca Futurity ChampionHerdsire. His progeny have spoken for him and Constance will be one of only a few Snowmass girlsto carry his genetics. This pairing will prove to be truly ground breaking genetics and whilst broughtto the market with pride we will be sad to see her leave the farm. This can only be described as anawesome opportunity. We are confidentthat both alpacas presented offer tremendous scope within any breeding programme, yet offer enough subtle differences to be attractive to a broad selection of breeders. Her genetics compliment Let It Be but at the same time offer some distinctdifferences. She is an outstanding blend of coloured genetics featuring some of our very best dams, as wellas Futurity Herdsire Champions on both sides of her pedigree. Something even we as owners of both malescannot often find, but more importantly, it means her genetic strength is well proven. She herself is a verypowerful yet compact female, with good substance of bone allied to a strong frame with excellent capacitythroughout that frame. Very true to type, she carries a fleece showing a high level of lustre, with good densityand handle. Now in her 4th fleece she is still producing high quality fibre.Presented with the benefit of a pregnancy to GLR The Synergist, who himself tied on points with this year’seventual Futurity Champion Suri Herdsire (who was white!), we expect with confidence great things of theresultant cria due early next year. If you need to introduce the very best of coloured genetics into your Suriprogramme this girl has them all.LOT 20 - BREEDERS CHOICE - SURI FEMALES32www.alpacaevent.co.uk

Having the famous MacGyver in the pedigree issomething to be proud of and instils great confidence, but add to this mix the well-known Arunvale SuriEbony Dream and you can understand the outstanding genotype within Let It Be. Phenotypically correctwith a tremendous balance this very striking female carries with her a beautiful fleece, having excellentdensity and lustre with a uniform lock style. Make sure you take the opportunity to look at her shorn fleeceand you will be better able to appreciate her fibre qualities. Now the twist to this package, she is presented pregnant to our grey Suri Herdsire, Alpaca Stud Phoenix.Phoenix, a much awarded show champion in his own right, and Futurity Champion Herdsire by hisprogeny, will prove to be the perfect match for this girl. This will be a cria with a fantastic pedigree to builda new foundation on. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to work out where in your breedingprogramme you want these genetics to come from, Let It Be or Phoenix Firebrand.LOT 20 - BREEDERS CHOICE - SURI FEMALESwww.alpacaevent.co.uk33

Her genetics speak for themselves; however, the one term you can not use to describe Apple is ‘uniformity of colour’! Inall other fleece attributes Apple has them all, an incredibly showy, highfrequency spotty fleece which zings! So if spots are for you than she has itall! True appaloosas like Apple are still rare; so, appaloosa breeders, don’tmiss out on this outstanding example.LOT 2134www.alpacaevent.co.uk

She is carrying on her an advanced fleece that is fine, dense, bright, soft handlingand with good staple length. Putting all this together naturally presents you with a highlyorganised fleece with tremendous character and architecture across the entire body. Ofcourse, given her pedigree it should be no surprise that something special would be producedwhen we married up these two lines. Vanessa has had a very successful show career winninga number of broad ribbons in amongst that very competitive arena of white females, but it isher on going potential that excites us most.Vanessa is offered with a pregnancy to Alpaca Stud Yves Jacques, himself a multichampionship-winning male, and Supreme Champion at this year’s Alpaca Fiesta. We believehis incredible fleece attributes and phenotype married to Vanessa’s own outstandingcharacteristics will produce a cria that will have all the traits we seek, along with a genetic basesecond to none. We do recognise that line breeding is not to everyone’s taste, but with a WCIof 10.93% we are advised that this is a very tried and tested match, and offers the bestopportunity for advancement in a breeding programme. We bring Vanessa forward with some reluctance, but in the true spirit of the Alpaca Classic, inwhich we promise to offer you the best.LOT 22www.alpacaevent.co.uk35

But what colour? - that is the question! Wind Dancer has beenmated to Bourbon who is producing élite progeny in an array of colours.Grey seems to be generally such an elusive colour to produce, but with WindDancer’s grey in her background and the fact that Bourbon has producedat least 3 grey progeny from females that are either grey themselves or havegrey heritage, you could just be onto a winner with this one!Top that with the fact that both her dam and sire pedigree lines havemaintained fineness well into their teens, the colour may be a lottery but thequality of the fleece won’t be, whatever the colour!LOT 2336www.alpacaevent.co.uk

She has thephenotype so desired by us all, beautiful head type, good body capacitythrough the chest and hindquarters, as well as an enviable spring of rib, andbeautifully proportioned. Living proof that “if it isn’t broken don’t fix it”. Herfleece is bright, soft handling, dense and uniform in architecture and styleacross the body, and is in itself testament to the bloodline. Offered with a WhiteSnowmass Royal Vision female cria at foot, that whilst young, is of courseunsurprisingly, showing excellent potential with her highly organised and brightfleece, with outstanding staple length on a robust and compact frame. This three in one package will bring to any herd a mixture of genetics secondto none.Julietta is offered with a pregnancy from one of or new and upcoming malesAlpaca Stud Top Gun who himself is a son of Snowmass Invincibly Elite andAlpaca Stud Haze, probably our most prized female.
