Lighting
Philips Lighting is No. 1 in the global lighting market. 30 percent of offices around
the world are lit by Philips Lighting, which also lights 65 percent of the world’s
top airports, 55 percent of major soccer stadiums, and 30 percent of hospitals.
Manufacturing operations exist in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the
United Kingdom, Poland, the United States, Canada, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Thailand,
the People’s Republic of China, South Korea, Spain and Mexico. Products include a full
range of incandescent and halogen lamps, compact and normal fluorescent lamps,
high-intensity gas-discharge and special lamps, ballasts, lighting electronics and automotive
lamps.
Philips Lighting implemented the FinanceSuite AutoBank Automatic Cash Application
to manage its automation of posting incoming and outgoing payments to the
highest possible degree. It began the implementation in the German subsidiary with
key functions of AutoKonto for SAP ® , the module to process the posting of electronic
bank statements. This initial project was designed to build the core system for planned
further roll-outs through-out Europe. This implementation strategy is not only the
logical consequence of Philips Lighting’s centralized SAP ® R/3 ® environment, but the
most cost-effective way to build a common business process within a multi-national
organization. Integral part of the initial set-up was the foundation and education of a
Philips Lighting Competence Centre for the FinanceSuite AutoBank Automatic Cash
Application. This enables Philips Lighting to provide Level 1 support with the new
software to their employees.
The German set up of AutoKonto, including a detailed project definition analysis,
required only twenty days of Hanse Orga resources and led to an automation quota
of 80 percent from the first day on. “We are heading for an even better quota by
using the broad capabilities of the product’s search and filter logic”, says Karl-Heinz
Schönebeck, Accounting Manager, Germany. Step two of the German project was the
implementation of AutoAvis for SAP ® , the module for the processing of electronic as
well as paper-based payment advice notes.
Due to its business and customer structure, the share of paper-based advice notes of
all incoming payments that are processed is about 50% of the total daily effort. Philips
Lighting has therefore decided to implement a Scan and OCR recognition software in
order to electronically process this payment information as well. With this enhancement,
Philips Lighting has set the basis for a complete automation of processing and
posting all payment information to SAP ® FI. And, most importantly, without any external
interfacing to SAP ® .
“We are very satisfied with the
cooperation with Hanse Orga AG,
especially so as this cooperation
is not a customer/supplier
relationship, but is rather focused
on Philips reaching its goals.”
“We have now realized the
automation of more than 90%
of mass information coming
in by payment advice notes. This
saves a lot of time and money,”
