Most of his local friends and associates are involved in the SCA.2) He values everyone’s time and understands that everyone has a lot to do and to thank youfor spending your time at the meeting.3) Everyone is a Chatelaine. Make folks feel welcome. Remember to introduce yourself tonew folks and give them your contact information. Remember that the initial engagementis very important to keeping new members.Adelric has two deputies currently: Rebecca the Contrary is his current “drop-dead” deputy. Bumba is his Event Coordinating Deputy who is in charge of organizing (or finding someoneto organize) baronial encampments at events.Bumba stated there are three upcoming events which will have baronial encampments: Ruby Joust Pennsic War of the Wings Bumba will need someone to help organize the encampment for War of the Wings as hewill be unable to organize that encampment. After the Tournament of Friends, he will be getting information out regarding some detailsabout the Pennsic encampment. One detail for the Pennsic encampment is that we will be using Culligan water in the campfor drinking and washing purposes (no bottled water). This will cause a slight increase inthe encampment fee by $5 (making the baronial encampment fee $30). There will also be a map of the encampment posted (and lit during darkness) so people caneasily determine where there camp is to be set up.Adelric wants to push the use of the Keep and the Announcement list to help share informationwith the Barony as a whole. Please remember to share information with others.

Volume 42, Issue 04 Page 2Adelric is planning on keeping Baronial meetings on the 3 rd Sunday of the month. After this month, the meeting time will be movingto 5pm. If you are unsure about an item on the list or how you can help out, just ask!Their Excellencies had a great time at Gulf Wars. For full details and stories have dinner with them after the meeting. They didwant to mention that the SCA Board of Directors is in the very early development stages of looking at doing youth “badges” similarto the Boy/Girl Scouts. This would give kids something to do to earn their “badges” and also increase family involvement in theSCA. Again, very early stages of planning and will not be mandatory for various Kingdoms to participate. But, wanted to give folksa heads-up that this was something being discussed by the Society.Officer Reports:Chancellor of the Exchequer (Tréphine la Broderesse) –Adelric thanked Tréphine and the other members of the Financial Policy Review Committee for taking care of the Financial Policyrevisions before he stepped up.Tréphine has copies of the Ymir event report if anyone wishes to see them.We have received a check from the Kingdom as a result of the lawsuit settlement. The check is for $280. She asked the group whatthey would like to do with the money – put back into the Barony or re-donate it to the Kingdom as the Kingdom is usually alwayslow on funds.Marion made a motion to send the $280 plus an additional $100 ($380 total) back to the Kingdom as a donation. This motionwas seconded by Bumba.22 Voted Yes – 1 No. This motion passed.

Volume 42, Issue 04 Page 3Wistric posted a list to the Keep recently regarding items he wished to purchase for the Youth Rapier loner gear. He is askingfor $750 to cover the cost of the equipment including shipping & handling and taxes.Nikulai made a motion to allocate $750 to purchase youth rapier equipment. This motion was seconded.28 voted Yes – No one voted against. This motion passed.Geoffrey is out of the country at this time, but asked Tréphine to ask at this meeting for money to be allocated for three newtargets for use for the northern archery practice and for use at events. He priced these out and is asking for $450.Nikulai mad a motion to allocate $450 to purchase new archery targets. This motion was seconded.22 voted Yes – no one voted against. For Tourney of Friends, meet at the storageshed on Thursday at 7:00 PM to help. He will make sure Adelric gets a copy of the storage shed key.Knight Marshall (Rufus Barbarossa) – Good practices so far. 12-15 heavy armored fighters at the practices. We will continuehaving a theme to the practices to focus on at each practice.Rapier Marshall – There were 8 rapier fighters present at today’s practice.Herald (Domenico Barbiere da Mantova) – No report.Minister of the Lists (Roana verch Cadugan ap Reis) – If you were not at Unevent and are currently training to become an MoL,the youth fighting internship is no longer a requirement.Chronicler (Helwynn Ivelchild) – No report.Minister of Arts & Sciences (Sunneva de Cleia) – Baronial A&S Nights are being held on the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesdays of themonth.Web Minister (Nikulai Ivanovich) – There are some issues with the online Officer Information Update form. If you see an error on this list, please let Nikulaiknow but also the Kingdom since it would be incorrect on their list as well.Adelric asks the cantons to make sure that their information on the Baronial website and calendar is correct. And to rememberfor upcoming events to not only send an email to the Keep but also update the online baronial calendar.Chatelaine (Sajah bint-Habushun ibn-Ishandiyar al-Hajjaji) – Sajah was not at the meeting but Adelric asked if anyone was interestedin finding out more information about doing a demo at the Maker’s Fair coming up (June 15). Ia Kazimova volunteeredto look into this. Makers Fair is a craft “making-stuff” type event from SCA related crafts to technology but probably a goodarea to tap into folks who like to do and make things.Adriana brought up the Carolina Fiber Festival which has been held as part of the Got to be NC Festival in the past (this year itwill be in Sanford) as a possibility for a SCA fiber-arts demo. Helwynn mentioned that she believed this year’s fair coincidedwith an SCA event but she volunteered to look into it and find out if the SCA would be welcome to do a demo there either thisyear or in the future.Target Archery Marshall (Manus MacDhai) – No Report.

Volume 42, Issue 04 Page 6Greetings Windmasters’,L e t t e r f r o m t h e S e n e s c h a lIn my opinion, one of the most important things to the health of any group is a steady meeting place that meetsall of their needs. In the canton of Attillium we struggled with finding a new place to hold our fighter practices, business meetings, social nights and A&S Classes for more than a year. It created additional stress on all of ourmembers. However; since finding the right place, our group flourished, we could not have found a better siteand that additional stress is gone. Now, I believe we find ourselves with the same challenge for the Baronial business meetings and fighter practices.I personally never liked the Carolina Pines Park, it was secluded, sometimes the bathrooms were open, sometimes they were not, the fighting areas were not well suited for what we do and sometimes there was not enoughparking. The April Business meeting and fighter practice will most likely be held at Crowder District Park, 4709 Ten-Ten Rd. Apex, NC 27539, expect an announcement to come out in the next week, I am communicating withthe Baronage and the Baronial Knights Marshal to confirm the change. It was mentioned at the last businessmeeting to possible return to Carolina Pines; but we’re not going to return there and were going to try anotherlocation to see if it better meets our needs. I hope that Crowder Park does meet our needs; I will be looking forwardto feedback from everyone who attends the next Baronial fighter practice and meeting.Regarding our needs, I believe it should be easy to find, a public place where people can see us doing what wedo, a place with a field well suited for fighter practices, a place where we can hold business meetings, a place withsufficient parking, and a place that is family friendly. Will Crowder Park meet all of these needs, I do not know, nor will we know until we try it. Is it possible that the summer may bring competition for space with the BBQ’sand youth sports, yes? But again, we won’t know until we get there. So as we try out this new location for the spring/summer/fall fighter practices and meetings, please providefeedback on how Crowder Park is working for us. Please be on the lookout for other possible suitable locationsand please be patient as we resolve this task like we will resolve many other tasks, together. On a completely unrelated note, if you are considering putting in a bid to Autocrat next years Baronial Tournamentof Ymir, please contact me.Adelric FalkeSeneschal, Barony of Windmasters’ HillAnyone can contribute! Poetry, articles, recipes, directions for crafts, book reviews—yougot it—we want it!

Volume 42, Issue 04 Page 7After Action Review (AAR) Comments from Ymir 2013Good No major issues during the event itself A lot of folks loved the snowflakes falling as a nice back drop to the event (somehow very fitting for a Norse themed event) Feast was excellent A&S went well Space for everything was more than adequate Received a lot of positive comments about field set up Came in on budget (I believe but Trephine will know better) Facebook event page worked great though sometime things were posted that should have gone to personal messages Staff was wonderful, I only had to check in from time to time and they did everything they were set to do (I tried letting them havefree reign as long as it didn’t go outside the overall theme or idea) From Emmie – Thanks for all of the help and support with retaining responsibilities From Her Excellency – Much thanks to all who donated to the hospitality table, there ended up being more donations that theyever anticipated and it was very much appreciated From Marion – The Autocrat has some lost and found items, please contact her if you are missing them or can assist in returningthem to their owners From Wistric – Please post a copy of the event AAR to the e-list and the Windlore From Bumba – His Excellency, Callie was very easy to retain for.Issues Had issues with kingdom server being down when flyer was made and not knowing till late Had issues finding an archery marshal (everything worked out in the need and 26 archers attended) Had issues getting volunteers to sign up to help with gate, newcomer’s point, and servers Archers were far from chirurgeon’s point and would have liked folks to have brought things over or check on them Got one response saying folks didn’t know about wait list for feast. There was one at gate when folks checked in. (might want toput on website the info in future) Weather prevented some folks from coming out so attendance was on lower side but we did reach breakeven point (again Trephineshould have more on this) Planning started early but website was a little delayed in getting up (ACCEPS was also slightly slow going up but not too bad) Need to have clear pre-reg end date on website where it is very visible as people were trying to still prereg on Friday of eventL e t t e r f r o m t h e M i n i s t e r o f t h e L i s t sGreetings unto all who read these words,First, I would like to thank all those wonderful gentles who serve as Ministers of the List for our Barony. And I would askthat each of you be sure to check your warrants and be mindful of expiration dates. If you are in need of renewal, pleaselet me know so that I help to make sure you have all you need in order to do so.For any who are in the process of receiving training to become a warranted Minister of the List, you will be most welcometo our ranks. If you began your training before December 2012, you may not be aware that there has been a policychange and you are no longer required to have one of your training internships be at an event with youth combat. Theinternship requirement is now simply 3 training internships. If you only need to finish your internships to finish yourwarranting process, please contact me to find out about opportunities to do so.Also related to training, I have been approached by some who wish to begin the training process. I'm extremely excitedto have more good gentles who wish to become warranted MoLs and have not forgotten you! I am currently working ongetting an MoL 101 class approved and brought to a location near you, so please stay tuned to the baronial mailing listsand your weekly meetings to hear news of when this might happen. I hope to have more information very soon. Finally, as a reminder to any event autocrats, I am happy to help you find MoLs to staff your events so feel free to contactme at any time.Yours, In Service,Lady Roana verch Cadugan ap ReisMinister of the Lists of Windmasters' Hill
