Cochrane was custom made for families!
Name any other Alberta community with so much on offer
for kids, parents & grandparents – go on, we dare you!
With so much here, we’ve narrowed down a few of our
favourites for your next family-friendly adventure.
Play for the day, or choose Cochrane as your easiest
family vacation ever!
Calaway Park / calawaypark.com
Dubbed as ‘Western Canada’s Largest Outdoor Family Amusement Park’, Calaway
Park has been serving the highest calibre of family fun for 34 years. Located 20
minutes east of Cochrane along the south side of Hwy 1, the expansive 90-acre park
offers 32 rides, 22 food stalls and 27 games for all ages - from toddlers to seniors.
“We’re 34 years old this year,” remarked general manager Bob Williams. “When we
first opened we had 14 rides, and now we’re up to 32.”
“New this year is Calaway Park’s very first themed ride, Timber Falls,” said Bob,
adding that their new and improved log ride can accommodate some 900 guests
each day - up from around 380 daily. Celebrating a soft opening at the 2014 season
end, thrill seekers will splash their way through two main drops and one concave
drop at Timber Falls.
Take a merry turn on the ‘Berry Go Round’. Slice through the skies on ‘Free Fallin’.
Blast across the tracks on ‘The Vortex’. Or bump and glide your way across the
course in ‘The Boulder Bumpers’. There’s a crash course or a smooth sail in store
for every age and stage.
With five main restaurants, there’s a savory, succulent sizzling on the grill with your
name on it. Craving a sweet temptation? On top of the churros, ice cream, mini melts
and donuts and all the candy you can handle from the Sweet Toothe Candy Shoppe -
funnel cakes are back by popular demand, following a three-decade absence.
Drive in for the day or pull up and stay. Campers need look no further for a spot
to park their rigs. The Calaway Campground offers ample room for all walks of
weekend warriors - from the fully loaded motor home to the fold-up tent. Fully
serviced, power-only or non-serviced sites are available. Online reservations are
highly recommended. Pets are welcome, providing they are picked up after and
kept on a leash. Day kennel services are available for an additional charge. A
convenience store, laundry facilities and showers and Wi-Fi are all available for
your camping comfort.
