Two-time Philippine NationalFormula 3 champion Tyson Sy will likewise playreserve driver duties. --TGPPentagon’s cyber attackaccusations irresponsibleBEIJING -- A Pentagon report that China is conductingcyber attacks against the United States isirresponsible and harmful to the mutual trust betweenthe two countries, according to a military experton Tuesday.In its annual report to Congress on Chinesemilitary developments, the Pentagon said the U.S.government continues to be targeted with (cyber)intrusions, “some of which appear to be attributabledirectly to the Chinese government and military.”In response, Wang Xinjun, a researcher withthe Academy of Military Sciences of the ChinesePeople’s Liberation Army, said it was irresponsiblefor the Pentagon to make such an assertion as theChinese government and armed forces have neversanctioned hacking activities.“Although it is common sense that you cannotdetermine sources of cyber attacks only through IPaddresses, some people in the Pentagon still preferbelieving they are from China as they always bear asense of rivalry,” Wang said. “It is an allegation basedon presupposition.”He continued, “The groundless accusations reflectthe U.S. distrust of China.”In an information era, the international communityis increasingly threatened by cyber securityproblems. (PNA/Xinhua)HEALTH FEATUREHow weight-losssurgery improvesdiabetes controlmicrobes from gas emissions andoils.The paint also has the ability torepel water, it just flows to the surfacewithout seeping into the paintthat carries dust particles and lipophilicdirts.The paint mimics the lotus effect,the complex structure of lotusand gabi leaves such as water dropletsthat land on the surface pick upparticles as they flow out, minimizingadhesion of dirt on the leaves.The department stated that thispaint is already in the market insome other countries but it is unaffordableto most people.But the locally developed paintof the department will be more affordablethan the commercial paintsbecause it used locally available additives,stressed Dr. Araceli Monzadoin a statement.It is also expected to cut downannual maintenance costs becauseit does not require annual washingand periodic repainting.This will minimize surface damagesin building caused by strongdetergents and high water pressurefrom frequent washing.The paint is currently availableonly in white, the department willstill develop other colors.Monzada also mentioned thatthe department also designs thepaint for the automotive industry.(PNA)Gastric bypass — awidely used weight-loss procedure— appears to change thehormones and amino acids producedduring digestion, whichcould explain how the surgeryeliminates symptoms of type 2diabetes, according to a smallnew study.The findings could leadto new treatments for type 2diabetes, the researchers said.Untreated, diabetes can lead toheart disease, blindness, amputationsand kidney disease.In gastric bypass surgery,the stomach is divided into twosections. Food is then directedto the smaller section, so peoplefeel full after eating less food.This study included fourwomen who had gastric bypasssurgery. During the operation,a catheter was inserted into thelarger, bypassed section of eachpatient’s stomach.After the surgery, the researcherssent food through thecatheter into this part of the stomachand analyzed the hormonesproduced. Those findings werecompared to hormone activitywhen a meal was digested in thesmaller section of the stomach.Patients’ levels of insulinand other hormones weremuch higher when a meal wasdigested in the smaller part ofthe stomach, compared to thelarger bypassed section. Aminoacid levels also were higher inthe smaller part of the stomach,while levels of free fattyacids were lower, according tothe study, which was publishedApril 30 in the Journal of ClinicalEndocrinology & Metabolism.The increased levels ofhormones — particularly insulin— during digestion in thesmaller part of the stomach enabledpatients to maintain bettercontrol of their blood sugar,the researchers said.
