(B)DAY 4 | JaipurMorning visit to the magnificent Amber Fort, a stunning fusion <strong>of</strong> Mughaland Hindu styles with ornate terraces and ramparts; enjoy an elephant rideup the ramparts <strong>of</strong> the fort — a royal experience! Then, on to Hawa Mahal,the Palace <strong>of</strong> Winds, with its lacy ornamental façade. In the afternoon,visit to the Maharaja’s City Palace, a former royal residence converted to amuseum, and to the well-preserved Jantar Mantar Observatory (B)DAY 5 | Jaipur / AgraDrive to Agra, stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbaras his first capital. This UNESCO site boasts perfectly preserved redsandstone courtyards and palaces that conjure up dreams <strong>of</strong> the mysteriouspast. Arrive in Agra for overnight. (B)DAY 6 | AgraVisit the astounding Taj Mahal — perhaps the most perfect architecturalmonument in the world, built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to hisbeloved wife. This extraordinary structure, <strong>of</strong> white marble and preciousstones, was built by 20,000 craftsmen over a 17 year period. Later, visit theriverside Agra Fort and the Tomb <strong>of</strong> Itmad-Ud-Daulah. Khajuraho TemplesDAY 7 | Agra / Jhansi / KhajurahoMorning transfer to the Railway Station; board the Shatabdi Express Trainto Jhansi. Continue on a drive from Jhansi to Khajuraho, stopping tovisit the medieval city <strong>of</strong> Orchha, on the banks <strong>of</strong> the Betwa River, builtduring the medieval times <strong>of</strong> the 16th century by Bundela rulers. See themagnificent ancient palaces and temples reflecting the era’s grand beauty.Then, on to Khajuraho, the UNESCO <strong>World</strong> Heritage site, famous for itssculptured temples dedicated to Shiva. Overnight in Khajuraho. (B)DAY 8 | Khajuraho / VaranasiTour Khajuraho’s unique temples including the Ghantai Temple, VamanaTemple dedicated to the "Vamana" or dwarf incarnation <strong>of</strong> Lord Vishnu,and the Javari Temple. There are also three Jain Temples with beautifulcarvings and non-erotic sculptures. Later, transfer to the airport for theflight to Varanasi; arrival and transfer to the hotel. Evening: Tour the narrowstreets and alleyways <strong>of</strong> Varanasi by Rickshaw. Participate in an ArtiCeremony and watch the floating Diyas (lamps) on the River Ganges. (B)DAY 9 | VaranasiRise before dawn for a boat ride on the River Ganges; see devout Hindusperforming their rituals on the steps (“ghats”) <strong>of</strong> the sacred river. Throngs<strong>of</strong> people descend in solemn silence and immerse themselves in the holystream as the sun rises. You’ll see the pilgrims <strong>of</strong>fering sweets, flowersand holy water to the Sun God. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Afternoondeparture on an excursion to Sarnath, the buried Buddhist city where LordBuddha preached his first Sermon after attaining Nirvana.
