There is nothing like putting a commitment in writing. I signed my Sigma Kappa promise many years
ago, but I have never forgotten it or its meaning and value in my life. What I have put into Sigma Kappa,
I have received ten fold. That promise was made to me and I have found it to be true.
In my role as president of the Sigma Kappa Foundation, I have the privilege of interacting with today’s
college woman and I am humbled. These young women take far more credit hours than were required
of a bachelor’s degree when I was in school. They and their parents have an enormous tuition burden to
manage. Many of the students work – some more than one job. And yet, they also give of their limited
personal time to volunteer, lead projects and committees, and experience Sigma Kappa. They are women
of incredible character, determination, generosity, and potential.
The young women of Sigma Kappa are filled with a lot of promise – they are the next generation of
Sigma Kappa alumnae, and as well, the next generation of our nation’s leaders. Investing in them is an
easy decision to make. Investing in the programs that help them achieve their potential is also an easy
decision to make.
Your investment with Sigma Kappa Foundation has funded numerous leadership and programming
efforts for Sigma Kappa. Key initiatives include the new member education program, Promise; the
anti-hazing education movement, RESPKT; and the Field Consultant Program that touches every
chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority with personal and professional development training.
As I consider how different and challenging the world is today, I hope that I continue to live up to my
promise to give our next generation of members the experiences, education and the skills they need to
be successful. Giving of time and financial resources for Sigma Kappa is a way for all of us to ensure that
someone else benefits as much as we have or more. Thank you for your promise. Thank you for your
investment.
Fund Balance Classifications:
Endowment funds are held for investment purposes; therefore, the
use of earned income is restricted to those purposes and programs
specified by the donor.
Unrestricted funds (Annual Fund contributions) enable the Board of
Trustees to have the flexibility to respond to emerging needs and
priorities and are not subject to donor restriction. Most grants given
to Sigma Kappa Sorority are from unrestricted funds.
To establish the Sister to Sister Disaster Recovery Fund, certain
unrestricted funds were allocated by the Board of Trustees and are
considered “board designated.”
1. Endowment and Restricted 70%
2. Unrestricted 30%
3. Board Designated
