BLACK MALE #GAINZ: STRENGTHENING OUR SKILLS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL
MSC 2708
Paul Metellus (pmetellus@usf.edu) & Adler Marchand (amarchand2@mail.usf.edu)
Are you a Black male in need of mentorship and support to maximize your skills and abilities to succeed
in college? The disengagement of Black males is one of the pressing issues in Higher Education. This
workshop will provide essential techniques for Black males to GAIN success during and after their college
experience.
IDENTITY LIMBO: NAVIGATING THE SPACE IN THE MIDDLE
MSC 2709
Junior Peña (jpena2@fsu.edu) & Christian Williams (cawilliams3@fsu.edu)
Are you “caught in the middle?” Do you know someone who is “caught in the middle?” Are you
experiencing difficulty fitting in within the cultural norms of multiple race and ethnicities in America? This
session will educate and provide critical dialogue around identities that do not neatly fit within categorical
boxes and help students to successful navigate their college experience.
SHE SAID WHAT?! RESPONDING WHEN
WELL INTENDED PEOPLE SAY THINGS THEY SHOULDN’T
MSC 3705
Caitlin Jones (caitlinjones@usf.edu)
Has someone who “supports diversity” said something you don’t think is ok? Join a conversation about
approaching diversity conversations from a lens of acknowledging difference in experience based on
personal identity. By exploring ways to frame conversations, name micro-aggressions, and create change
through action, you will leave ready to handle that next “he did not just say that!” moment.
ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE: SUSTAINING POSITIVITY IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
MSC 3707
Rosanna Duran (rduran@usf.edu)
Positive people – those who experience more frequent positive emotions such as joy, gratitude, hope,
or love – are more creative, energetic, engaged, resilient, and productive. In this session we’ll explore
practices to help you cope with setbacks, build resiliency, strengthen your beliefs, and build confidence in
your ability to achieve your dreams.
