STATEMENT OF FISC STATEMENT OF FISC FAMILY SERVICE TAPS RESERVES TO SUSTAIN MISSION We met the needs of a record number of families in 2011—but at a price. ▰PUBLIC FUNDING FOR HOUSING ASSISTANCE DECLINED. In 2010, 33% of Family Service’s budget was provided by government reimbursements that helped alleviate and prevent family homelessness. In 2011, that number fell to 18%. 18% Family Service continued to help those in need despite the loss in funding. ▰INCOME FROM INDIVIDUALS & PRIVATE FUNDERS INCREASED--BUT NOT ENOUGH. Many of our fundraising campaigns and events produced more revenue for Family Service’s programs last year. However, the increase did not make up for the loss in government grants and reimbursements. As a result, Family Service tapped financial reserves for an unprecedented—and unsustainable—third year. THE THE BOTTOM BOTTOM LINE LINE: We will continue to work to increase revenue in 2012 while maintaining Family Service’s financial health. We remain committed to our mission to alleviate poverty, encourage selfsufficiency, and promote the dignity of all people. The Super Hero Campaign raised $125,000 for Family Service’s programs benefi ting hungry and homeless children and their families. This is $30,000 more than in 2010, an outstanding result.
