Family Service rescued us. When my nine year-old daughter and I were
hungry, you fed us. When we needed shelter, you helped us fi nd housing.
Because of Family Service, my child laughs and is happy again.
You made our dreams come true. ~ Family Service client
SPOTLIGHT ON SUPER DONORS:
JERRY & BRENDA BEAN
WHEN Jerry and Brenda Bean heard that Family
Service was struggling to meet the increased
need in the community--with far fewer resources
than in the past--they decided to do whatever
they could to help. Jerry agreed to join the board,
and the couple donated an unexpected major
gift at the end of 2011.
The Beans, who have lived in Redlands for 29
years, are longtime supporters of Family Service.
A lifelong newspaperman, owner of Century
Group Newspapers, and a Redlands City Council
member, Jerry joined the board because he felt
he could make a difference. Family Service’s
philosophy of providing “a hand up, not just Jerry Bean helps out in Family Service's
food pantry.
a hand out,” by giving emergency assistance
while addressing the underlying problems contributing to family homelessness and
poverty, was one he could endorse. “Family Service has been meeting the needs of
our community for more than a hundred years,” said Jerry. “It’s a great organization. I’m
honored to be part of it.”
SPOTLIGHT ON SUPER VOLUNTEER:
ROSE PALMER
ROSE PALMER learned from her mother at a young
age the joy of serving others. A mother of six herself
and a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints, Rose’s enthusiasm and “can-do”
attitude contribute to her success as a Super Volunteer.
Rose joined the Board of Directors in 2006. She served
six years on the board, much of that time as Second Vice
President chairing the Events and Volunteers Committee.
Her main contribution has been harnessing people’s
desire to serve by creating organized opportunities that
make contributing simple.
Her accomplishments include leadership of the Easter
and Thanksgiving Food Box programs, and coordination
with chairs Janell and Terry Vines of the incredible
Rose Palmer
Thanksgiving LDS door-to-door food drive in November
2011. That drive collected over 24,000 lbs. of food for Family Service clients. “We
heard over and over how those who had little gave full bags of groceries during that
food drive,” Rose said. “People are so generous. Family Service inspires that sort of
dedication. I’m so proud to serve as a Family Service volunteer."
