Home Courses of the Bishops<strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong> is fortunate to have 3championship-caliber courses which the Bishopsconsider their home courses.Oakhaven Golf Club(par 71, 6675 yards, rating 70.9, slope 122)Oakhaven provides a challenging and diversetest, with holes varying from wide andwind-swept with large, severe greens to narrowfairways lined by thick woods and small,well-guarded greens. Oakhaven boasts one ofthe finest practice facilities in <strong>Ohio</strong>, consistingof approximately 200 yards of tee boxes andhitting areas complete with sheltered andheated tee buildings overlooking a lighted drivingrange; a large putting green, 2 chippinggreens, a practice bunker and an indoor puttingfacility.The clubhouse at Dornoch Golf ClubDornoch Golf Club(par 71, 6873 yards, rating 72.3, slope 129)Formerly the Delaware Golf Club, this tremendous 9-holelayout of traditional Donald Ross design has undergone widespreadchange. Recent additions include a new practice facility, anew clubhouse, and 9 new holes designed by PGA Tour playerFuzzy Zoeller. Dornoch was the site of the 2003 NCAA Division IIImen’s <strong>golf</strong> championships.Mill Creek Golf Club(par 72, 6300 yards, rating 69.0, slope 111)Mill Creek requires accurate tee shots to often tight landingareas, as well as pinpoint accuracy with approach shots intorelatively small greens. Mill Creek also has a complete practicearea including a driving range, a pitching green and 2 puttinggreens. Mill Creek is the home course of 2003 British Openchampion Ben Curtis.Athletic FacilitiesThe crown jewel of <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong>’s athletic facilities is SelbyField, which is the home of the Bishop football, field hockey, track& field and men’s lacrosse contingents.An OmniGrass artificial playing surface was installed for the<strong>2006</strong>-<strong>07</strong> academic year, making Selby one of the most impressivevenues among NCAA Division III institutions. Constructed in 1929,Selby received a new, fully-enclosed 2-level press box and newbleacher seats in the first part of a 3-phase restoration program andrefurbished locker rooms in the program’s second phase. Thefacility, which seats 9100 and is the fourth-largest college-ownedfield in NCAA Division III, was the site of the 1988 Division III men’slacrosse championship game.Selby also houses the George Gauthier Track, an AmeritanFP surface installed for the <strong>2006</strong>-<strong>07</strong> academic year. The site of 15of the first 22 NCAC outdoor track & field championships, Selby isbelieved to be the oldest facility in the nation constructed toOlympic specifications and remaining in its original configuration.Across campus, Roy Rike Field hosts soccer, primarily underthe lights. Widely regarded as one of the Midwest’s finest facilitiesfor the sport, Roy Rike Field was the site of the NCAA Division IIIsemifinals and championship game for men in 1990 and 1998 andfor women in 2001. Roy Rike also serves as the home field for thewomen’s lacrosse team.The centerpiece of <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>Wesleyan</strong>’s athletic facilities is theBranch Rickey Physical Education Center, prized for both its sizeand versatility. Its Richard Gordon Field House, with a 5-lane, 200-meter track, annually hosted the <strong>Ohio</strong> Athletic Conference Championshipsand the women’s state title meet as well as the first 9North Coast Athletic Conference championships. Indoor practicefor fall and spring sports can be handled there as well: floor spaceis larger than a football field, accommodating 6 courts for basketball,volleyball and tennis.Branch Rickey Arena, seating 2300, hosts varsity basketballand volleyball contests. Its backboards and standards were firstGordon Field Houseused in the 1976 Olympic Games. Also in the Center are 5 handball/racquetball courts, a squash court, offices, locker rooms andlounges.Offices and locker rooms also are part of Edwards Gymnasium,which is connected by tunnel to the Rickey Center and in turnadjoins Pfeiffer Natatorium, home of the Bishop swimming teams.Remodeling in Edwards has recently included an expandedstrength facility.Baseball is played at Littick Field, site of the 2003 NCAADivision III Mideast Regional; and tennis at the Tennis Centre, acomplex of 12 outdoor courts where the 1978 NCAA Division IIIchampionships were held.The cross country teams run at nearby Methodist TheologicalSchool and Dornoch Golf Club, which hosted the NCAA Division IIImen’s and women’s championships in 1984 and 2005 and annuallyplays host to the All-<strong>Ohio</strong> Intercollegiate championship meet. The<strong>golf</strong> team also hosted the 2003 NCAA Division III championshipsat Dornoch.
