(Adopted by Board of Trustees on: (date to be advised)<strong>Napier</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> CurriculumThe school is committed to the delivery of the New Zealand Curriculum.Over the next few years more students are expected to complete 5 years of secondary education. Some student learning may be in arange of venues outside of the school.<strong>Napier</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> is continually reviewing the needs of students. We aim to develop more programmes at senior levels to caterfor an increasing diversity of students.The range of programmes available at each year level will be developed further with further opportunities for extension and challenge.There is a focus on creating an individual pathway for every student to provide academic or vocational success on leaving school.Links with families/whanau will play a key role in the development of the all round student.Particular attention will be given to our priority groups (Maori/Pasifika; Special needs; Low-socio economic hereinafter “our prioritygroups”Student LearningAlmost all students at <strong>Napier</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> achieve well both in and outside the classroom.4


4 February 2013 Version 3Students consistently attain pass rates in NCEA at much higher rates than national and those of schools of similar type, size, decile andarea. The pass rates for the school are increasing over time and the difference compared to other similar schools is also increasing.Merit and Excellence Endorsements are generally at higher levels than national and similar decile schools.Literacy and Numeracy pass rates at Level 1 and for University Entrance are also higher than national and those of schools of similartype, size, decile and area.Students staying for 5 years all attain a Level 3 NCEA qualification and UE enabling further study at tertiary level.Every girl will leave school with an articulated pathway for the next period of her life developed in partnership with her.Hostel students consistently attain pass rates at 100% at all levels of NCEA. The rate is comparable for Maori and non- Maori.All students participate in activities outside the classroom. Many are also involved in leadership in these areas. There is a huge array ofsports, music, culture and service to choose from.Many students achieve selection at regional and national and international level.Over the next 5 years <strong>Napier</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> aims to enable every girl to reach her potential by:• continuously increasing the high standards already attained in NCEA pass rates• continuously increasing Merit and Excellence endorsements and NZQA Scholarships• requiring participation by every student and increasing achievement in co-curricular endeavours5

Staff were surveyed in 2011. Both surveys will be run on a biennial basis and the basedata provides further analysis of development. Students will also be surveyed on a biennial basis with the next survey in 2013.<strong>Strategic</strong> consultation occurred in 2012 with representative groups across the school community to seek input for strategicdevelopment through the parent survey and through discussions with the Board’s consultant for <strong>Strategic</strong> planning.The draft strategic plan has been referred to the parent community via email, the Maori Consultative group, Student Leadershipgroups including Kahui Maori and Hostel leaders and Staff.<strong>Strategic</strong> goals have been set to build an inclusive relationship between the school and the community. Consultation, feedback andongoing self-review are at the core of these strategies.11


4 February 2013 Version 3THE STRATEGIC PLANThe strategic plan is a high-level expression of the priorities for <strong>Napier</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> for the period 2013-2017. The strategic planguides the Board's aims and purposes so that the Board can allocate resources to the school and monitor the school’s overallperformance.The strategic plan is supported by an annual plan and an annual budget approved by The Board each year. The strategic plan is ownedby The Board of Trustees and is adopted by The Board following consultation with stakeholders. Responsibility for implementation ofthe strategic plan rests with the Principal and staff. It is the Board’s task to hold the <strong>School</strong>’s management accountable forachievement of the goals described in this plan but the overall responsibility for achieving these goals rests ultimately with The Board.We will achieve our aims by working on our stated objectives and through identified directions.
