25 th Anniversary Tribute JournalHonoring Menorah Manor’sfounding board of governors, and our first president,Irwin MillerJanuary 22, 2011www.menorahmanor.org

“The highlight of this whole project was seeing everyone working together… Menorah Manor willgrow in the future because of community, and it is very important to keep the community involved.”2Irwin Miller, of blessed memory

In the early 1980s,a group of dedicatedcommunity leaderscame togetherwith a dream and amission…to create a home onthe west coast ofFlorida that wouldcare for our Jewishseniors.

Celebration 2011 HonoreesHonoring Menorah Manor’s Founding Board of Governors and our first president,Irwin Miller“Love has a way of expressing itself and that has always been preeminent atMenorah Manor.”Irwin Miller, of blessed memory“Everyone hopes to have people touch them and inspire them to do great things. Irwin wasour guiding light. He taught us that if you value family and friends and help build ourcommunity, that’s all you really need. Together with the other founders, his dream of ahome for the Jewish elderly inspired him to build Menorah Manor into the institution itis today by planning, raising funds and literally helping to build the nursing center fromthe ground up.We’re sure he’s smiling down on Menorah Manor with pride as we celebrate 25 years.”Sonya Miller“Irwin, a brilliantman with a hugeheart, was devotedto the cause ofcommunity peaceand progress. As mypartner, my mentorand my inspirationfor twenty-one years, I learned that Irwin was “alwaysright.” I still feel that way; in spirit I still see him walkinginto the office and I ask myself, “What would Irwin do?”Marshall Seiden“I think of a conversation that Irwin and I had, that wewere going to build this nursing home. What do we knowabout a nursing home? We concluded that we knew littleor nothing. Thank G-d we didn’t have enough informationto know why we shouldn’t do it, so we did it.”Ted Wittner, of blessed memory4

Chief Executive Officer LetterMenorah ManorCongratulations to our Jewishcommunity on a “job welldone!” During a period whenAmerican Jewish communitiesfaced serious challenges totraditional community motivationand commitment, our visionaryfounding board and financialsupporters created and sustainedMenorah Manor, a classicallyconceived system of care for Jewishseniors. These leaders from the Tampa Bay region firmlybelieved that a community must provide the best possible carefor its most frail and dependent members. Menorah Manorstill exquisitely manifests that belief.Menorah Manor has done its work well for our communityand our Jewish seniors. As a community sponsoredorganization we are responsive to those in our care as wellas their families; we work for them. As a not-for-profitorganization we can focus only on the most important things, which above all else is to care for those who cannot care forthemselves. As a Jewish organization we maintain a Jewish environmentand approach to our work; including doing the very best wecan for all we serve regardless of their ability to pay.I wish our founding board, all those who have served onthe board throughout our 25 years, our wonderful staff, ourvolunteers and our donors all a hearty Mazel Tov! You did itand you should be proud!Cordially,Marshall SeidenChief Executive Officer“There is definitely a Jewish warmth…Love conquersall… That is what Menorah Manor is all about, morethan medical care; really showing some love andcompassion…”Dr. David LeVineExecutive StaffMarshall SeidenChief Executive OfficerRobert GoldsteinAdministrator & Chief Operating OfficerGail FullamAssistant Administrator & Executive for Human Resources& Administrative ServicesDavid LeVine, M.D.Chief Medical OfficerRenee LipmanExecutive Assistant & Campaign CoordinatorAnabelle Locsin, Ed.D., R.N., L.N.C.Chief Nursing OfficerJudy Ludin, CFREChief Development & Community Relations OfficerDonna Perryman, CPAChief Financial OfficerDepartment DirectorsBonnie Berman, MSW, Ph.D.Director of Volunteer ServicesElizabeth Boozer, MSP, CCC-SLPDirector of RehabilitationJeanette Brownstein, MSWDirector of Geriatric Assessment Program& The Irv Weissman Adult Day CenterHeidi Celichowski, R.H.I.T.Director of Health Information ServicesLori ColemanDirector of Marketing & AdmissionsAnne Faehnel, R.N.Senior Assistant Director of NursingDavid Hendriks, CDM, CECDirector of Dietary Services, Housekeeping & LaundryGwen Kaldenberg, MSWDirector of Bresler Alzheimer’s &Disease and Related Disorders ProgramJoan McCabe, R.N.Director of Quality ServicesKim McFaddenDirector of Social ServicesEd Sobolewski, C.H.F.M.Director of MaintenanceRay Teasdale, ACCDirector of Therapeutic RecreationGreg YannDirector of Accounting10

Menorah ManorI am so proud to be chairman of MenorahManor at this special time in our history. Whata wonderful organization we have today. We cansay that for the past 25 years we have provided forthe needs of the seniors in our community andsoon we will do this with a campus in both Northand South Pinellas County. It is truly a time tocelebrate! With the construction of Inn on the Pond wewill now be offering a broad continuum of careto seniors at locations convenient for familiesthroughout the Tampa Bay region. Twenty –fiveyears ago, few would have imagined how MenorahManor would evolve into so much more than a nursing home.I recognize that my contributions to the successes we celebrate have beensmall in comparison to my predecessors. I merely needed to take the helmhanded to me after the founders of Menorah Manor guided this wonderfulorganization through unpredictable and difficult seas. It was due to theefforts and tireless commitment of Irwin Miller and the other Founderswe honor today that we can proudly enjoy the fruits of their labor. I neverattend a meeting at Menorah when I do not hear their voices (either silentlyor aloud) encouraging our board to fulfill our mission.Congratulations to our Founders honored today as well as the families ofthose who are no longer with us to enjoy this celebration. I particularly wantto thank the Miller/Sher family. If it were not for Irwin’s encouragement, Iwould not have committed myself to devote my time and energy into thisorganization. Thank you to Irwin, and to all those who have worked so hardto make Menorah Manor the wonderful organization it is today.I look forward to working with the next generation of leaders as we continueto fulfill the mission of Menorah Manor’s founders to provide the bestpossible care in a warm, homelike Jewish environment.Sincerely,Eric E. Menorah Manor FoundationI will start by explaining why you are here this evening. We are here tocelebrate the outstanding accomplishments and to honor the visionaries of 1985.Twenty-five years ago, the need was recognized for distinguished eldercare. With the help of you, and/or your Mishpacha, the newly formed board, and the community at large, Menorah Manor was born. The Founding Boardof governors worked tirelessly, believing in their mission and the fact it could beaccomplished.I had the honor of being elected president of the Menorah Manor Foundationin 2001. The necessity for an additional facility to help fulfill the requirementsof the growing elder population became apparent. All were called to help. Themoney was raised and we now have the Toby Weinman Assisted Living Residence. The need was recognized for a north county assisted living campus. Again,as chair of the Menorah Manor Foundation Board, the job was apparent. The money is being raised, thefinancing is finalized, and we are moving forward to completion of the “Inn on the Pond.”Without the above mentioned new project, we are continuing to serve thousands of residents, daycareattendees, and rehab patients; along with the steady research and updating of our existing facilities. Oneday, if you are a bit down (stock market or whatever may be), take a stroll through these areas, I guaranteeyou will have a smile on your face and that real warm feeling in your heart. The outstanding staff with the expert leadership is second to none. My deepest and most sinceregratitude goes to each and everyone for doing more than their job. Because of this dedication, our uniquepuzzle comes together very beautifully. The journey for me has been a very special 25 years. I have been involved from the planning stages tothe completion of each of these projects, because of not just the needs, but the people right beside me. Ilook forward to seeing the route the next generation will take. We give to you a very precious jewel, a finetuned machine. Please handle it with care. This is our family, yours, as well as mine.My very best wishes for a happy, healthy new year and I anxiously look forward to what lies ahead.Come with us on that journey!Have a wonderful evening! We have a lot to celebrate!DANCE... LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHINGPLAY... LIKE YOU ARE A CHILD AGAINLOVE... LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN HURTLIVE... LIKE EVERY DAY IS YOUR LASTAND OF COURSE...HAVE DESSERT FIRST,IF NOT NOW...WHEN?Thank you for your patience.Sharyn R.
