Welcome aDDress of programme cHairs
Dear colleagues and Members of ESSKA,
The European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) has the
pleasure of inviting you to the 14th ESSKA Congress in Oslo, June 9-12, 2010.
We are proud to welcome you to the best scientifi c programme ever which features 18 Instructional
Course Lectures, approximately 270 podium presentations and more than 600 posters.
Altogether, there will be more than 50 symposia and 30 lectures.
Of course, this year’s congress introduces several new and exciting features. One of those is the
National Award Session for the best paper in 17 European countries. A second is live surgery
for the fi rst time in an ESSKA congress. Some of the very best European surgeons will perform
surgery on hip, knee, shoulder and ankle.
We welcome the 4 Highlight Speakers: Elizabeth Arendt (USA), Roald Bahr (Norway), Jan Victor
(Belgium) and Savio Woo (USA), who will give insight into the frontline of sports traumatology. We
are proud to invite these distinguished speakers to the ESSKA congress. We are equally proud to
welcome specially invited guests like John Bergfeld and Rocky Tuan.
In approximately the same manner as the Innsbruck and Porto congresses, the best paper of all
submitted abstracts will be selected for the Theo-van-Rens Award. The 6 papers with the highest
scores will compete for this prize in a separate session on Thursday in the Plenary Hall.
We are also happy to present a full 3-day Physiotherapist programme, with lectures, workshops,
symposia and free papers.
The programme on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will start with the Instructional Course
Lectures, followed by the plenary sessions with invited speakers giving highlight lectures. From
10.00/10.30 h there will be 6 parallel rooms with symposia, lectures, free papers, debates, and
symposia. The scientifi c programme committee has worked hard on integration, geographical
and scientifi c balance and you will fi nd several new young speakers.
During the lunch breaks the industry will organise lunch symposia, demonstrating the latest technology
available. These events are important, and most probably the best opportunity to keep up
with the modern techniques.
The congress starts Wednesday morning, June 9, and will end on Saturday, June 12 at lunch
time.
We cordially welcome you all to Oslo to share ideas and to participate in an exciting scientifi c and
social programme.
