<strong>UAC</strong> Berhad wins BrandLaureate forBest Brands in Product Branding 2009/2010At a glittering black tie dinner held at theShangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Koo HockFee, CEO/Managing Director of <strong>UAC</strong> Berhadreceived the coveted BrandLaureate award forBest Brands in Product Branding (Manufacturingof Cellulose Fibre Cement Boards) from theAsia Pacific Brands Foundation. Presenting theaward was Y.B. Dato’ Seri Idris Jala, Ministerin the Prime Minister Department who wasrepresenting the Prime Minister.This accolade by the prestigious Asia PacificBrands Foundation, whose patron is H.E. 31st Major Peninsular MalaysiaDistributors Conference 2010The annual Major Peninsular Malaysia Distributors Conference thisyear was held in New Delhi, India from 15 to 19 April. This annualconference is an opportunity for <strong>UAC</strong> and its major distributors fromPeninsular Malaysia to review and discuss matters of mutual concernand interest. It is also a time for the participants who are seniorofficers in their respective organisations to renew friendship awayfrom the hustle and bustle of the daily work life.Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of <strong>UAC</strong> Berhad, Mr.Koo Hock Fee presented the achievement awards to the distributorsduring the Distributors Conference. Lion Danceat Menara <strong>UAC</strong>Two lions decked in gold paid a visit to Menara <strong>UAC</strong> on 23February 2010 to usher in the Year of the Tiger. The two lionswere part of a 10-member lion dance troupe from TarianSinga Kok Ngai which enthralled the crowd with a half hourperformance at the main entrance of Menara <strong>UAC</strong> at exactly3.00 p.m. <strong>UAC</strong> staff and some tenants were among thepeople entertained by the lion dance.Also present at the event were <strong>UAC</strong> Berhad’s Chief OperatingOfficer, Mr. Tey Long Puang and Chief Financial Officer, Ms.Ooi Lee Choo.The lions then pranced their way to the maintenance office,basement car park and <strong>UAC</strong> corporate office at Level 10. Thelions also visited <strong>UAC</strong> staff’s workstation to usher in goodluck and prosperity for the company.The lions then proceeded to several tenant’s offices to blesstheir business for years to come. Avnet Technology Solutions(featured in Berita <strong>UAC</strong> August 2009) and CommvergeSolutions Sdn. Bhd. (featured in Berita <strong>UAC</strong> December 2009)were the participating tenants for the lion dance this year.The lion dance, accompanied by cymbals and drums isbelieved to ward off evil spirits and to bring good luck andfortune to the business. The lion dance performance is heldannually and this is the second year <strong>UAC</strong> Berhad has held thisperformance since its opening in March 2008.

10Training & development activitiesThe objective of the training and development programmes is to provide employees with a platform to enhance their skillsto meet with the ever changing work environment. Among the major training programmes conducted in the first quarter of2010 are:STAYING AHEAD WITH ONE TEAM...ONE GOAL–GRAND FINALE19 - 21 March 2010The objective of this programme was to motivateand develop a positive attitude towards achievingpersonal, team and organisational growth. In fact,this programme helped to instill the importanceof realising the role and responsibility of eachindividual towards the success of the organisation.The 3 days and 2 nights programme was facilitatedby Global Training Network Service Sdn. Bhd.and headed by Dr. Rajasegaran. A total of 26participants from the KL office and Ipoh plantattended this programme. They were divided intothree groups and each group was led by a selectedgroup leader. Johan bin Jaafar Zabri (Assistant Safety& Health Officer) and Saravanan a/l Gunasegaran(Senior Engineer-Sheet Finishing) were elected asthe programme leader and deputy respectively.At the end of programme, the participants weregiven the opportunity to share what they learnedduring the course of the training. The feedbackreceived reaafirmed the significance of effectivecommunication, trust and teamwork, which couldlead to achieving the organisational goals.


11BUILDING EFFECTIVE COACHING AND COUNSELLING SKILLS17 - 18 February 2010, 24 - 25 March 2010, 28 - 29 April 2010All organisations share a common desire to possessemployees who are not only disciplined and self motivatedbut also committed and result-oriented. Their work andbehaviours are guided by positive and healthy work valuesthat results in an increase in productivity. This can beachieved through proper coaching and counselling at theworkplace.Building Effective Coaching and Counselling Skills trainingprogramme was designed to equip the supervisory levelwith the technique of conducting counselling and coachingsession. In fact, line managers and executives who havesurbodinates under their supervision were nominated toattend the programme too.Overall the training objectives were to:• develop effective coaching and counselling skills.• conduct effective training sessions.• use the appropriate counselling strategy and syle indifferent situations.• establish effective counselling relationship.At the end of the training, the participants were able tocapture and learn various tips and techniques of conductingcoaching and counselling session. The programme met withtheir expectation as they could then apply the knowledgegained from the training session.GRAMMAR MEANS BUSINESS5 - 6 April 2010, 12 - 13 April 2010, 3 - 4 May 2010This training programme was designed to provide participants with the right skills to prepare minutes of meetings, reports andletters which they can put into practice immediately. In this training session, the participants were taught systematically a setof grammatical features of English Language and how these features are related to their daily working life.Dr. Alistair King was the facilitator who was engaged to run this training. The training was divided into three sessions for ourMenara <strong>UAC</strong> employees and Ipoh employees. In total, 65 participants attended this training programme.At the end of the programme, the participants were able to enhance not only their writing skills but also their interpersonalcommunication skills.
