RISI (RET.)Justice of the Supreme Court, Queens<strong>Hon</strong>orable <strong>Joseph</strong> J. <strong>Risi</strong> a former Queens County Supreme Court Justice <strong>and</strong> former Supervising Judge of the CivilCourt in Queens, has over fifteen years of service to the bench. He was first elected as a Civil Court Judge in QueensCounty in 1988 <strong>and</strong> was elevated to the position of Supervising Judge of the Civil Court in 1992, before being elected asSupreme Court Justice in Queens County in 1998. Judge <strong>Risi</strong> retired in late 2005 <strong>and</strong> joined NAM as a mediator <strong>and</strong>arbitrator in 2006 specializing in complex personal injury <strong>and</strong> medical malpractice matters.Prior to his election to the bench, Judge <strong>Risi</strong> served as Counsel to the Appeals Board Department of Labor Division ofEmployment. He was an Instructor in Legal Education at Brooklyn College’s Adult Education Division. He also servedas a Law Secretary to Supreme Court Justice Mario J. Carrillo. In addition, Justice <strong>Risi</strong> was the Director of CommunityPlanning Boards for Queens County <strong>and</strong> an Aviation Sub-Committee Chairman of the Tri-State Metropolitan RegionalCouncil.
