In her featured keynote address, Monica Ponce de Leon will illustrate how architects can identify the unique<br />
challenges of each project to push forward transformational design solutions. The founding partner of MPdL<br />
Studio, Ponce de Leon is internationally recognized for innovation and excellence in design. Using examples<br />
from her work on projects ranging from furniture to architecture and urban design to infrastructure, the<br />
presentation will outline the design process established by her fi rm that seizes the peculiarities of a site,<br />
unique program requirements and cultural specifi city as catalysts to encourage invention, sustainable design<br />
and transformation. An award-winning architect, Ponce de Leon currently is Dean of the Taubman College of<br />
Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. (K1A: 1.5 LU/HSW hrs.)<br />

The seminar reveals the nature of risk and examines how economic trends impact design professionals. Learn the<br />
defi nition of risk in the context of the design sector and examine some of the challenges for designers. Presenters<br />
Paula Dixon and Reid Just will utilize historical data and claims to bring real case studies to the discussion<br />

<strong>Products</strong> <strong>Expo</strong>. The <strong>Expo</strong> is your opportunity to fi nd answers to all of your questions from representatives of<br />
the region’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of design and construction industry products and services.<br />
This is your chance to gather valuable product information, speak to company reps and enjoy visiting with<br />
friends, sampling hors d’oeuvres, winning door prizes and viewing displays of various awards and student<br />
work. Reception sponsors include <strong>AIA</strong> Contract Documents. Everyone is invited to explore this extraordinary<br />
<strong>Expo</strong> of the latest building products and services.<br />
<strong>AIA</strong> <strong>Wisconsin</strong> members will be able to earn <strong>AIA</strong>/CES learning unit hours by completing one of several<br />
predefi ned “<strong>Expo</strong> Education” tracks. Each <strong>Expo</strong> Education track contains at least four 15-minute sessions.<br />
These <strong>Expo</strong> Education programs include sessions sponsored by exhibitors that are <strong>AIA</strong>/CES registered providers<br />
as well as sessions offered by <strong>AIA</strong> <strong>Wisconsin</strong>. Exhibitor-sponsored <strong>Expo</strong> Education session address<br />
BIM implementation and increasing productivity with technology. <strong>AIA</strong> <strong>Wisconsin</strong> sessions in the “<strong>AIA</strong>/CES<br />
Corner” will focus on emerging professionals by reviewing the new Intern Development Program (IDP) requirements<br />
and on the new state mandatory continuing education requirements for architects. If you attended<br />
the Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon, you can earn <strong>AIA</strong>/CES credit for the presentations on Institute<br />
initiatives and the power of design by also reporting your participation in at least two other qualifying <strong>Expo</strong><br />
Education sessions. See schedule of <strong>Expo</strong> Education sessions and <strong>Expo</strong> Education Report Form for details.<br />
This year’s “Emerging Professionals Workshop” will be presented by State IDP Coordinator Russell LaFrombois,<br />
<strong>AIA</strong>, in four separate 15-minute <strong>Expo</strong> Education sessions. Presented in the <strong>AIA</strong>/CES Corner, the four<br />
workshop sessions will address recently implemented IDP 2.0 requirements related to experience categories,<br />
experience settings, electronic experience verifi cation reporting (e-EVR) system, and rollover issues. There<br />
will be an opportunity for questions following each session.<br />
