VerdermagMag Drive Centrifugal PumpsThe series of mag drive centrifugal pumps from Verder consists of a wide range of both metallicand non metallic pumps. Verder has more than 40 years of experience in mag drive centrifugalpumps and is an expert in choosing the most adequate pump for your pumping application. The Verdermag series of pumps comprises themetallic Global and the non-metallic heavy dutyTB, U, V&W series and the normal duty V-MD,GPMD and GLMD versions. The Verdermag rangeis therefore a complete, well-balanced series ofmagnetically coupled centrifugal pumps. As with all series of Verdermag centrifugal pumps, emphasis is on maximum interchangeability andquality improvements, hence all products arecovered by a two-year guarantee, as well as thestandard Verder warranty package.Mag drive centrifugal pumps are being usedin a wide range of industrial areas:Chemical industryAcrylic acid, 50% aluminum chloride, hydrofluoricacid 50%, hydrogen sulfide, 85%, sulfuric acid,98%, ammonia, phosphate and many othersElectronics industryPlating, etching, ferric chloride, hydrochloricacid 37%, sodium hydroxide 50%MiningBrine with uranium solids, H2O, soda ash, HClGalvanic industryPlating, etching, filtrationFeatures and advantagesSimple by design - Fewer parts are usedin the whole pump than most conventionalseal cartridges ensuring easy maintenanceand assemblyMag drive coupled: completely leak freePharmaceutical industrySodium hydroxide 50%, caustic soda, hot oil, solventsSteel industryHydro chloric acid, pickling liquor, sulfuric acidVerdermag Mag Drive Centrifugal Pumps | 3

Working principleAlthough each mag drive pump series -depending onits design- has its own characteristics, all mag drivepumps work with a magnetic coupling. The principle of a magnetic couplingA magnetic coupling consists of two magnetassemblies. One is the outer assembly (thedrive magnet) and the other is the innerassembly (the driven magnet). The outerassembly is connected to a motor andthe inner assembly is directly or indirectlyattached to a pump impeller. As illustrated,at rest, the magnet components of the outerassembly are aligned with their counterpartsin the inner assembly. When load (torque) isapplied, the coupling deflects angularly andthe magnets create a force of simultaneousattraction and repulsion. This force is usedto transfer torque from the motor to theimpeller. This permanent magnet coupling createsneither slippage nor induction currents duringrotation. If excessive torque is applied, themagnets will de-couple. The magnets will notre-couple unless the pump is stopped. Thereis no energy loss in a permanent couplingunless an electrically conductive containmentis placed between the outer and innermagnets. If an electrically conductive materialis used for the containment, Eddy Currentswill be generated which will cause someenergy loss.

V-MD SeriesThe V-MD OEM mag drive pumpsA very compact, mag drive centrifugal pump. Dependent on theapplication these pump series can be supplied with either closedor open impeller. The electric motors are completely integratedand are fed with a power supply of 230/240 V, 50 Hz. All typescan be supplied with threaded or hose connection. The wide choice of V–MD pumps is based upon the most common OEMrequirement for optimum flow and head characteristics. The majoradvantage for using the V–MD pumps is total product containment;no unexpected leakage. Even for flows up to 100 l/min the modelsare still compact due to the close coupled electric motors. The processconnections are standard hose design, but the larger models in particularcan also be supplied with threaded connections. Motor specificationsare standard single phase (100–110 V and 220–240 V), 50 to 60 Hz foruse worldwide. For optimum efficiency and lower heat input the smallermodels can be operated with DC drives. The maximum voltage is 24 V,this results in an operating speed of 4.000 rpm. TB, U and V&W SeriesAs a result of thorough research and cooperation with the best technicaldesigners Verder can now present you the newest mag drive series, withthrust balancing (TB–series) and universal purpose pumps (U–series). Also available is the V&W series, based upon the TB series, verticalinline pumps with the same benefits and features as the TB series. The patented Thrust Balancing Design eliminates axial thrust bearingsand provides the basis for a controlled internal environment. Thisdesign minimizes the issue of secondary containment by providingsecondary bearings.Working principleThe single, enclosed impeller/magnetassembly is free to rotate and slideon the central cantilevered shaft. Themain flow of liquid enters the impeller(1) and is pressurized and thenexpelled into the volute (2) and outthe discharge. A small portion of theflow passes behind the impeller andthrough the back wear ring clearance(3) and then into the balancechamber. This liquid than flowsthrough, past the bushings (4) to exit at the valve (5). If the impellermoves forward, the valves is opened to a greater degree and thebalance chamber pressure is reduced. This causes the impeller to reactwith a net force towards the motor. However, the valve is now closingand the balance chamber pressure increasing. This moves the impellertowards the suction. The net result is a very stable axial position forthe impeller. There are no axial bearings and the radial bearings alwaysoperate in a pressurized fluid environment.motorpedestalouter motorpump shaftimpellercontainment tubebackplateVolute case

Tried andtrusted designs have been updated to allow modular construction, with many interchangeable components. The pumps can beassembled from stock components to give quick response times, whilst spares requirements are kept to an absolute minimum. The Global pump utilises the differential pressure generated by thepumping action to create a flow around the bearings and magnets. The pumped liquid acts as a cooling medium to dissipate the heatgenerated from Eddy Currents as the magnets pass around thecontainment shell. It is also used to lubricate the hydrodynamicbearing sets, with flow from the front bearing passing through thebalance holes of the impeller and flow around the rear bearingre-entering the low pressure suction area of the volute.Specialist in-house engineering capabilities allow Global to offer awide range custom made products, covering extended flow ranges, temperatures and pumps required for use in high system pressureapplications.Features and advantagesSimple by design - fewer parts are used in the whole pump thanmost conventional seal cartridges ensuring easy maintenanceand assemblyBearings - top grade silica free silicon carbide - fitted as standardfor its chemical resistance to most reagents. An added benefit isits exceptional hard wearing capabilities.Only 4 bearing sizes cover the entire Global rangePress fit bearing design - bearings are seated on static O-rings,to absorb small movements and temperature shocks, ensuringconsistently high performance and easy fittingO-rings – gaskets are specially chosen to suit the customer’sspecific requirements. High temperature perfluoro-elastomerso-rings, such as Kalrez, Perlast or Chemraz are available;these extend the pump capability up to +250 °CIn-house engineering capability allows for specialist pumps to bedeveloped for specific applicationsThe Verdermag Global series can also be ATEX marked, makingthem ideal for the petrochemical industryTop grade rare earth samarium cobalt magnets are fitted asstandard on all pumps making high temperature applicationseasy
