A SEASON FOR LEGACYabout God. To him, the temple was a footstool that enabled people to overcome theirweakness and be brought closer to God. David dreamed of a spiritual footstool whenhe said:2 I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of theLORD, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it.In the same way, our own vision is not a vision for something new. It is a vision tocreate a divine intersection where people’s lives come in direct contact with the presenceof a living God. We have a vision of providing a place where the confused anddiscouraged single mother can linger in the company of God and young people canfind a supernatural crossing.Aurora First Assembly must have a vision to pass on a spiritual legacy. Davidwas consumed with a sense of responsibility to apply the faith of those before him andsupport the faith of those who would follow him. We see this powerful example whenhe said:So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the LORD, and in thehearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the LORD your God, that youmay possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever (1Chronicles 28:8).Each of us at Aurora First Assembly is standing at a strategic crossroad. Having enjoyedthe fruits of the faith, sacrifice, and courage of those who have gone before us, itis now our turn to seize destiny. We are blessed to be alive in one of the most strategictimes of our church’s history. Most of us wil never again have the opportunity to bealive during the total relocation and expansion of a ministry of this size. These kindsof opportunities come once or maybe twice in a lifetime. But what will the next generation say that we have passed on to them? Will wegive them opportunity or obligation? Faith or fear? Will we pass on boldness or lethargy? Will they think fondly of our foresight, faith, and imagination? What will theyhave twenty years from now because of how we lived today? Will destiny find us readyand prepared for what could be our finest hour? Our vision is not only to expand our ministry opportunities but also to do it in away that benefits future generations. Like David, we must give the next generation avision to conceive, but we must also be wise enough to give them a strategy to perceive.13
