of China. As a leading business school in the region, 

we are positioned to equip our graduates to face 

new challenges and opportunities as the focus of the

global mindset but a deep knowledge in China 

market and its unique interaction with the western 

part of the world, we are launching a new IBBA 

concentration on“International Business and 

Chinese Enterprise” in partnership with University 

of South Carolina, a top ranking U.S. programme in 

international business. Our renowned Global Business 

Studies Programme continues to draw top students 

from Hong Kong, Europe and the U.S. who receive 

unparalleled global exposure inside and outside of 

classroom. All our IBBA students are given exchange 

opportunities to learn about doing business in Asia, 

Europe, North America and other parts of the world. 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is deeply 

rooted in its Asian/Chinese knowledge and culture 

and its long history has created an extensive network 

of alumni of over 20,000 business leaders. Our 

students receive first-hand information from the 

state-of-the-art research by studying under world 

experts in China and other emerging markets.

The Faculty of Business Administration at The 

Chinese University of Hong Kong is committed

To enhance graduates’ competitive edge in their future career, students are given the option to pursue double 

majors or up to two minors. 

Double Majors 

Students who were admitted in 2004-2005 and 

thereafter may declare double majors if they 

complete the requirements of two majors within 

the normal period of study and attain the required 

cumulative grade point average (GPA). No quota is set 

on the number of students who may declare double 

majors. A single degree is awarded, but with two 

majors, e.g., BBA (Integrated BBA and Professional 

Accountancy). The total course load for double 

majors can be reduced if the requirements for both 

programmes overlap or credit is given for broadly

As a CUBA student, you will attend classes with 

incoming exchange students from prestigious

University of Pennsylvania, the University of Southern

Double Degree Options 

As an IBBA student, you may register for one of 

the following double degree options which are 

collaborated with the Faculty of Engineering: 

1. Bachelor of Business Administration - Bachelor 

of Engineering (BBA-BEng)

of Science (BBA-BSc) 

The double degree options have been designed to 

provide students with maximum flexibility. Students 

may: 

i. complete a BBA in their normative study period; 

ii. complete a BBA with a Minor offered by the 

Faculty of Engineering; or 

iii. complete a BBA and, with one extra year of 

study on a self-financed basis, be awarded a 

BEng or BSc.

In addition to the requirements for the Integrated

above double degree options need to fulfill the 

major requirements of the respective Engineering 

Programme should they wish to be awarded double 

degrees upon graduation. Students should have 

completed at least 30 credits of courses of the 

respective Engineering Programme during their 

pursuit of the first degree and should have obtained 

at least an overall GPA of 3.0 in the first degree 

before pursuing the second degree. For details of

Global Business Studies 


Global Business Studies (GBS) is offered by CUBA in 

collaboration with the Copenhagen Business School 

(CBS) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel 

Hill (UNC). It is designed to produce well-educated 

business professionals with cross country cultural 

experience in other cultures, who will rise to the 

challenges of a dynamic globalized world economy. 

GBS is a pioneer in business education, providing 

students with a truly international exposure and 

global outlook through an internationally oriented 

curriculum with high international standards. Every 

year, each partner institution admits fifteen students.

In addition to attending classes together in Denmark 

(for one term), Hong Kong (for one term), and the 

United States (for one term), students from the three 

institutions participate in study trips in Europe, Asia, 

and the United States to reinforce their classroom 

learning. They attend executive briefings at selected 

organizations, where they can acquire firsthand 

perspectives from those working in a global 

marketplace. The experience of living overseas allows 

students to become fully integrated into the local 

culture and enables them to form a global network 

with students from the best business schools outside

Administration and the Faculty of Law. It is designed 

for students who will pursue careers in corporate 

law and business management. In the business 

world today, the intersection of legal, business and 

accounting issues form a sophisticated corporate 

world that makes demands on professionals that 

go beyond the scope of any of these separate 

disciplines as they have traditionally been defined. 

BBA-JD gives its graduates the intellectual tools 

to understand and shape the complex legal and 

business environment in which corporations operate, 

whether they ultimately choose their careers as 

lawyers or business professionals. BBA-JD graduates

JD was first launched in 2007-200 with an initial 

admission quota of 15. 

After finishing the first degree of BBA, students can 

be guaranteed places in the 2-year Juris Doctor (JD) 

programme offered by the Faculty of Law, subject 

to fulfilling requirements stipulated by the Faculty

Chinese Enterprise 


International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) 

is jointly offered by CUBA and the Darla Moore 

School of Business at the University of South Carolina 

(USC). It aims at producing young professionals with 

advanced understanding of international business, 

with an emphasis on business activities between 

China and the United States, deep understanding 

of the cultural dynamics between the East and the 

West, and strong communication capability.

Students from the two universities will share courses 

together at CUHK and USC throughout the three- 

year curriculum. They will also be required to 

complete summer internships in both the United 

States and Hong Kong/China. Upon completion of 

their bachelor degrees at CUHK, they will continue 

with the one-year Master in International Business 

at USC, subject to fulfilling the entry requirements. 

Every year, each partner school admits twenty 

students.


Accounting has always been a highly respected 

profession. The Bachelor of Business Administration 

(Hons) Programme in Professional Accountancy 

(PAC) is designed to provide students with a firm 

grounding in the professional knowledge. In addition 

to technical business/accounting knowledge, the 

programme focuses on training leadership skills as 

well as analytical, interpersonal and communications 

skills. Professionalism, ethics and information 

technology are integrated throughout the 

curriculum.

Graduates are eligible to register as students of the 

Qualification Programme under the Hong Kong 

Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) 

or to take other professional examinations such as, 

the ACCA or AICPA. PAC graduates were sought 

after and mostly recruited by Big-4 accounting firms, 

while others joined companies in, for example, the 

banking and financial sectors. The School admits 

about 140 students to the PAC programme each 

year.

Hotel and Tourism 

Management Programme 


Offered by the School of Hotel and Tourism 

M a n a g e m e n t , t h e B a c h e l o r o f B u s i n e s s 

Administration (BBA) Programme in Hotel and 

Tourism Management (HMG) is a full-time 

professional programme. It is industry-driven 

in nature and aims to develop the talents of 

individuals who will make investment decisions 

and run business operations in tourist destination, 

airline, hotel, restaurant, theme park, cruise, and 

convention centres. It provides comprehensive and 

practical training in the hospitality industries. The 

Teaching Hotel project will be completed by the 

end of 2009. Students will be able to learn from 

industry leaders via different unique programmes 

such as Distinguished Speaker Series and Executive- 

in-Residence programme. In addition, students 

are required to gain hands-on experience and to 

participate in industry-related internships during 

the summers of their first and second years. It is 

not a hospitality operation programme. It is not 

a hospitality programme with a business focus. It 

is a business programme with a hospitality focus. 

It nurtures leaders for the hospitality industries. It 

nurtures hospitality leadership.

Insurance, Financial and 

Actuarial Analysis Programme

The Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis 

Programme (IFAA) provides students with a 

conceptual understanding of, and analytical skills 

for, insurance, financial, and actuarial analysis, plus 

a sound knowledge of the structure, practices, and 

business functions of the insurance industry. In 

response to the needs of the market, this Programme 

is rooted in the Hong Kong institutional environment 

but students are exposed to international issues and 

practices. 

University-level education in insurance, financial 

services and actuarial analysis is essential to the 

growth of the industry and to maintain and promote 

professional standards. Graduates are equipped 

to function effectively as managers in insurance 

and related fields, which offer excellent career 

opportunities in Hong Kong. They also specialize in 

the quantitative techniques of insurance and receive 

preparatory training for possible careers in actuarial- 

related disciplines.

QFN Graduates

The Quantitative Finance Programme (QFN) has been 

developed in response to the market’s needs for 

persons with high-level quantitative and analytical 

skills. The first year consists mainly of basic courses 

in business, mathematics, statistics, and information 

technology. Courses taken in the second and 

third years include advanced courses in finance, 

mathematics, statistics, and information technology 

designed especially for the programme. Three 

practical courses – Fund Management and Asset 

Allocation, Technical Analysis: Theory and Practice, 

as well as Banking and Finance Practicum – are 

offered to provide a bridge between the classroom 

and the real world of banking and finance. A guest 

speaker series gives students ample opportunities of 

discussion with industry experts on current financial 

issues of interest. 

Students will be ideally suited to positions requiring 

strong quantitative skills for the purposes of 

valuation, portfolio analysis, asset allocation, credit 

analysis, risk modeling, capital budgeting, structured 

finance, etc. The QFN Programme also provides a 

good background for careers in investment banking, 

commercial and corporate banking, financial services, 

accounting and general management, or for pursuit 

of further advanced studies. There are more than 250 

students currently registered in the Programme.

Interdisciplinary Major Programme in Quantitative 

Finance and Risk Management Science

This new interdisciplinary major programme is a joint 

endeavor of the Faculty of Business Administration 

and the Faculty of Science. It inculcates state-of-the- 

art knowledge in finance, risk management, statistics 

and business. As a major financial services centre, 

Hong Kong has a steady demand for professionals 

in quantitative finance and risk management 

science. The subprime mortgage crisis highlights the 

importance of proper training and expertise in risk 

management in addition to quantitative finance. This 

programme will position graduates to understand 

the new developments in these areas and take 

advantage of them in developing their careers.

Participation in business case competitions 

(international and local) has long been part of our 

Faculty culture. Experience in case competitions 

is both commendatory and challenging. These 

competitions highlight strategic challenges and 

managerial dilemmas encountered by today’s 

business leaders. Participants from top business 

schools are required to solve a real business problem 

and to formulate feasible recommendations for 

possible solutions within a short period of time. 

In addition to the knowledge of accounting, 

economics, finance, management, marketing, etc. 

offered in our day-to-day curriculum, our Faculty

Internships 

Nothing compares to the experiences of applying 

knowledge and learning the corporate culture of 

major companies. The various internship programmes 

offered by the Faculty provide opportunities for 

students to gain valuable on-the-job training and 

in-depth understanding of their targeted professions, 

and aim to facilitate a smooth transition from their 

university studies to the workplace. Very often, 

many interns will eventually become formal and 

permanent employees of the companies they have 

served as interns upon graduation. 

Spring Internships are organized especially 

for students of the Professional Accountancy 

Programme to spend a semester in one of the 

Big-Four accounting firms, either in tax, audit or 

both areas. Interns might get a chance to work 

in mainland China as well. The Treasury, HKSAR, 

also offers internship programme for accounting 

students.

Summer Internships enable students to enrich their 

profile by working with experienced professionals 

in a real business workplace during the summer

Work Study is available on a part-time basis during 

the academic year. This allows students to work 

flexibly and enrich their exposure at the same time.

Half– or One-year Professional Training is offered 

particularly to students of the Quantitative Finance 

Programme, Insurance, Financial and Actuarial 

Analysis Programme and Integrated BBA Programme. 

Students will take leave from their studies to work 

full-time in major financial institutions such as 

Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, MSCI Barra, HSBC, 

Hang Seng Bank etc and reputable business 

corporations such as L'Oreal Hong Kong, IBM and 

Yahoo! Hong Kong Limited. 

Actuarial Training Programme provides 

participants’ working experience in actuarial 

departments of insurance and related companies 

(such as actuarial consulting firms and reinsurers) 

for at least six months. Students use these golden 

opportunities to get involved in the real business 

world, to gain practical work experience, and to 

enhance their interpersonal and communication 

skills. Sponsoring organizations include AIA, AXA, 

HSBC Insurance, ING, Manulife and New York Life 

Insurance. 

International Internships as part of the Summer 

Internship Programme organized by the Hotel and 

Tourism Management Programme, enrich students’ 

global exposure and broaden their international 

perspective by placing them in overseas companies

Undergraduate Mentorship Programme 

Our Faculty’s close relationship with alumni has led 

to the creation of the Undergraduate Mentorship 

Programme. This rewarding enrichment programme 

aims at providing Year 2 or above students with 

guidance on career planning and development by 

grouping them with alumni whose expertise and 

experience match their interests. Regular seminars/ 

gatherings on various themes are organized to 

deepen students’ understanding of the latest 

business issues and expand their network in the 

business community. 

The programme has been well received. Last year, 

approximately 500 students and 100 alumni took 

part in the Mentorship Programme.

We always encourage our students to outreach 

to the actual business world and build stronger 

networks. As part of this effort, we initiated the 

Heart-To-Heart Talk Series in August 2007. Top 

government officials and elite business leaders are 

invited to share their insights and wisdom with our 

CUHK Business Undergraduate 

Programmes Series 

students. This sharing provides significant benefits 

to the students, widening their perspectives and 

provoking further thinking and discussion. The book 

series captures the essence of these Heart-To-Heart 

Talks with emphasis on business environments and 

leadership.

Leadership Development Programme 

The Leadership Development Programme (LDP) aims 

to nurture the leadership potential of elite students 

of CUHK and prepare them for the challenges and 

opportunities of the new era. Every year, about thirty 

CUHK students are selected to join LDP. The two-year 

programme carries a total of 24 units and consists of 

four modules: Leadership Potential, Civic Education, 

“Being one of the selected members of the 

Leadership Development Programme, I make a 

difference in my university life! The programme 

provides me with a very systematic and wellorganised 

series of lectures and courses, which 

help to polish my communication, analytical and 

interpersonal skills needed to be a good future 

leader in the society. I find my horizon being 

broadened a lot through making friends with 

outstanding students from different faculties, 

joining study tours to London and Beijing, 

as well as hosting leadership seminars by 

ourselves. Much precious insight and memories 

can be gained throughout all these wonderful 

activities!”

Ethical & Aesthetic Education, and Informal Activities 

which cover a broad selection of experiential learning 

opportunities such as an outward bound course, a 

mentoring programme, high table dinners and guest 

talks. Since 2003, more than ten BA students are 

admitted to the programme every year. 

The Leadership Development Programme gave me 

a fruitful university life, and I have never regretted 

of joining this programme, even though I need to 

sacrifice lots of study time and leisure time. I would 

say, the programme is influential to my personal 

development and this influence is positive. 

Throughout the study of different disciplines, the 

programme helped me explore my interest and figure 

out what kind of a person I am. It is very important to 

me and it will have significant impact on the way I will 

be heading. This programme gave me the chance to 

get in touch with many successful people and share 

their invaluable experience in their years of fighting, 

and this is very inspiring.
