Data SheetPacketLogic SubscriberManager (PSM) PlatformsSubscriber Awareness and Policy IntegrationPLM1215, PLM1425 and PLM1435PSM Platform ModelsProduct OverviewThe PacketLogic Subscriber Manager (PSM) isthe focal point for integration into the 3GPPPolicy and Charging Control ecosystem, BusinessSupport Systems (BSS) and Operational SupportSystems (OSS). The PSM is critical for operatorslooking to personalized subscriber services and tooffer differentiated services, as it enables servicesby user, application, location, and device. ThePSM is a highly scalable solution that is designedto abstract policy management and provisioningfrom installed Intelligent Policy Enforcement(IPE) systems, dramatically simplifying policymanagement deployments. The PSM’s modulararchitecture enables integration using multipleinput feeds to glean information on eachsubscriber on the network, and turn them intoservices that can generate revenue for a networkoperator with very high transaction rates.AwarenessSubscriber integration provides detailedawareness that enables efficient networkplanning and new service creation. Subscriberawareness correlates an individual subscriber ordevice with their network address, and can beaccomplished through integration with Gx, Gy,Radius/ Diameter, or DHCP systems. Throughsubscriber awareness, insight can be gainedinto other aspects of a subscriber’s connectivityon the network, including service, device, andlocation awareness. Service awareness enablesper user service plans for increased revenue andsatisfaction per customer. Location awarenessenables the PacketLogic solutions to correlatesubscribers with their location, and ensures thatthe network operator can quickly diagnose andmanage network congestion, as well as monitorQuality of Experience (QoE) issues that may arisefrom network abuse or load. Device awarenessensures that an operator can better understandthe trends in usage by different devices attachedto their network, and plan more effectively forgrowth by correlating trends in application usageand location bias for devices. A network operatorcan use this awareness to better manage theirinfrastructure to deliver high quality services totheir subscribers and offer more attractive servicesto enhance subscriber capture.Policy ManagementThe PSM abstracts subscribers and policies fromthe deployed PacketLogic Real-time Enforcement(PRE) platforms to implement Intelligent PolicyEnforcement (IPE). The PSM integrates withthe Policy Management systems to associatesubscribers with devices, and directly provisionpolicies to the PRE platforms. In this architecture, the PSM can take input from multiple sourcesas the single point of contact for all BSS/OSS integration without requiring the externalsystems to understand the PacketLogicconfigurations or where subscribers are locatedin the network. The PSM can integrate withRadius, Diameter, or DHCP to glean subscriberinformation, and then connect with PolicyManagement systems, PSM’s internal database,or BSS systems for service configurations that arepushed to the deployed PRE systems. Standardsbased interfaces are used for all connectionsto simplify the integration process for eachcustomer, and any policy management systemcan be interfaced with to provide advancedservice offerings for an operator’s subscribers.ChargingThe PSM also provides the interface to externalcharging systems (OFCS and OCS) as well as CDRMediation to provide subscriber/session levelcharging. Since the PSM has a wide variety ofawareness capabilities, charging can be based onlocation, devices, applications, volume, or timebased usage, enabling new business models andinnovative service plans.Key Features:• 3GPP Policy Managementinterfaces for 3GPP PolicyControl and Charging (PCC)ecosystem• Single point of integrationfor Business Support Systemsand Operational SupportSystems• Standards-based Charginginterfaces to enable fastinnovative service plans• Simple integration withAAA systems for subscriberawareness through DHCP,Radius, Active Directory, andDiameter• Unparalleled subscriber, service plan, location, anddevice awareness visibilitythrough the PacketLogicIntelligence Center

With support formillions of subscribers per PSM system, thePSM platforms enable large scale subscribermanagement deployments. The PSM connectseither directly to the AUX interface of the PRE orremotely to the IP address of the PSM platform.Multiple PSMs can be deployed to enableeven larger deployments scaling to hundredsof millions of users. The PSM can scale up to100,000 transactions per second to ensure thateven the most difficult network deploymentscan be met with minimal hardware.
