Batik ToolsTixor Wax PotP.F.D (Preparedfor Dyeing)An electric wax pot for safely melting wax. Thepot has a 300ml capacity and is thermostaticallycontrolled with settings up to 135°C.£82.50 ........................... EB011Java TjantingsFor applying melted wax. Handmade in Javawith copper bowl, brass spout and teak handle. When buying fabric you may occasionallycome across the term P.F.D or Prepared forDyeing. This means that no starches, sizing orfinishes have been used on the fabric as thesetreatments, including optical whiteners, willinterfere with the absorption and therefore theeffectiveness of dye.Although your fabric has been sold as ‘dressingfree’ it should still be prepared for dyeingbecause it will have attracted grease or dirtduring handling. Another problem to be awareof is residue from deodorants and body lotions.Fibres and yarns will have been ‘contaminated’in a similar way to fabric, and wool fibresmay still retain some of the lanolin (a waxysubstance secreted by the sebaceous glands ofthe sheep).BATIKspout size 0.7mmspout size 1.0mmspout size 1.5mmspout size 2.0mmdouble spout 1.5mm£9.50 ..................... Rinsethoroughly in warm water and your fabric, fibres or yarns are now Prepared for Dyeing.Synthrapol can also be used after dyeing toprevent back staining by removing colour whichhas not combined with the fabric. Rinse thefinished item in a solution of half a teaspoon to5 litres water.Make a more concentrated solution of up to 2tablespoons to 5 litres of water when boilingout batik wax, and the same quantity in coldwater for cleaning fleece.250ml£5.10 ...........................
