PROCION MX DYESFREE P&P orders over £95Procion MX DyesGo to website >Procion MX dyes (commonly knownas Fibre Reactive dyes) have beenformulated for use on cellulose fibressuch as cotton, linen and viscose. They are a cold water dye, makingthem suitable for Batik, and setwith soda ash. The addition of salthelps to disperse the dye particlesso that colour is better absorbed.Adding a solution of Urea increasesthe solubility of the dyes, allowinga longer reaction time and deepercolours, most useful when printing.Procion MX Dye Bath:• Measure cold water into a bucket (3 litresper 100g dry weight of fibre), add the dyestock solution (see product details) and stir.• Add the clean wetted fabric (wrung out),ensure fully submerged, and leave to stand for15 minutes, stirring occasionally.• Add 40g of common salt for every litreof water (having first dissolved it in a littlewater) gradually over the next 10 minutes (thesalt pushes the dye into the fabric, helping tocreate an even, rich colour).• Add 10g of soda ash for every litre of water(having first dissolved it in a little hot water)and leave for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.• Wash and rinse wellProcion MX Dye Painted, Sprayed or Printed:The dye can be applied to fabric with a paintbrush, dropper or spray bottle. The fabric isfirst soaked in a solution of soda ash (5g sodaash for each litre of warm water). For tie-dye,first tie the fabric, soak it in the solution andwring out. Do the same for Batik but allow thefabric to dry thoroughly so that the wax can beapplied. Add a small amount of Urea to the dyeas it acts as a humectant and keeps the fibresdamp for longer, allowing a greater reactiontime for the dye. Combine dye, Urea andManutex (sodium alginate) thickener to makethe dye suitable for printing.Fibrecrafts Procion MX DyesCold water dyes for use on natural fibressuch as cotton and silk. 0.5g of dye powderis required per 100g of dry fabric for pastelshades, and up to 4.0g dye powder for deepshades such as navy and black.
