There are two main types ofassessment tasks: common tasks and class tasks.Common tasks are completed by the whole year cohort and are used to determine the course mark and theA – E grade awarded on the half yearly and yearly reports. Class tasks are differentiated to meet the abilitylevel, needs and interests of each class. They form part of the class mark awarded on the half yearly andyearly reports.The next page includes frequently asked questions and their answers. Following this there are two copies ofeach semester 1 and 2 assessment schedules so that you can remove one and place it in a prominent place,e.g. fridge door. Semester 1 (Term 1 and 2) are back to back.Please make sure you are familiar with when assessment tasks are due as there are some very busyweeks throughout the year including examination weeks in Term 2 and 4. <strong>Year</strong> 7 <strong>Assessment</strong> <strong>Booklet</strong><strong>Year</strong> 7 <strong>Assessment</strong> in <strong>2013</strong> FAQ’sHere are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) and their answers about assessment at <strong>Inaburra</strong>.1. What is an assessment task?An activity measuring the knowledge and skills a student has learnt. A student’s results in assessmenttasks are reported in the formal school report.2. What is this booklet?A brief outline of the assessment tasks for each subject is contained in this booklet. Students will alsoreceive a single page planner for each semester outlining due dates. Many parents find it helpful to havethis planner in a prominent place at home.3. When do students find out what is expected for each assessment task?The class teacher will provide students with information about the task at least two weeks before it isdue.4. How do students know which specific day each assessment task is due?The class teacher will ask students to write the exact due date in their school diary.5. Will students be required to do more work at home than what is listed on this schedule?At least Mathematics and English will be requiring all students to do some regular homework; however,it will be the assessment tasks that will take up the majority of the student’s time.6. What should a student do if s/he is taking substantially longer to complete assessment tasks thanis indicated on this schedule?Contact his/her class teacher well before the due date.7. What should a student do if s/he is feeling overwhelmed by the total number of assignments?The student and/or parents should contact the Yr 7 Advisor Miss Mitchell. If he is unavailable,contact Mr Bailey.8. What should students do if they are not being sufficiently extended in their learning?Either contact their teacher for a specific subject, or contact Mr Bailey.9. Are there rules for how an assignment should be submitted?Yes. Students must give their assignment to their class teacher in class on the day it is due. The teacherwill stamp the student’s diary. If the student is away when an assignment is due, he/she should take theassignment to the library. The library staff will stamp the student’s diary. A note written by a parentshould be placed with the assignment explaining why it was late. Students should not give theirassignment to another teacher. If a student does not have a receipt in their diary, it will be assumedthat the assignment was not submitted. Students can only submit an assignment via email if their classteacher allows this.10. Are there penalties for late submission of assignments?Yes, unless the department coordinator accepts a letter of explanation from a parent. In years 7 to 9, thepolicy for all subjects is: ‐10% for the first day, ‐20% for the second day. After the third day, themaximum mark that the student can receive is 50%. Parents will be contacted if the assignment is morethan 3 days late without explanation.11. What happens if a student is away on the day of a test?If the parents are aware in advance, it would be appreciated if they could contact the class teacher.Otherwise, the class teacher will speak with the student &/or the parents to make an alternativearrangement.12. Whom should parents contact if their child is struggling with their learning in a range of subjects?As a first port of call contact the student’s home‐group teacher or the Yr 7 Advisor Miss Mitchell. Thenthey could contact Mr Bailey. If a child has a welfare need that is not directly related to learning, parentsshould contact the director of welfare, Mr Smith.2
