A reminder that this was a six-part series ofshort radio documentaries made for BBC Radio 4 25 yearsago. This final episode focuses on the school, so if youwere a pupil — or a parent — in 1987, this one’s foryou….you might well recognise some of the characters whoappear.June 2012St Peter’s RestorationGreat news from St Peter’s Church — after months,if not years of preparation, we have finally been grantedpermission to start restoring the building. The ‘Faculty’from the Diocese (the Church equivalent of planning permission)arrived early in May and means we can now startplanning the restoration work in earnest. We’ve also appliedto Carlisle City Council for planning permission to extendthe vestry. Don’t be fooled by the word ‘Tearoom’ onthe application — it’s just a rather grand term for a modestextension to provide a disabled loo, and facilities for teaand coffee making. Helen Eichler, St Peter’s RestorationGroupBUNTING BONANZAResidents of Castle Carrock joined together to festoonthe village with flags and bunting — much of it sewn by SheilaCorby and a host of other volunteers. The task involved bravingthe heights of some unusual locations, such as the archedgateway to St Peter’s Church, where John Corby found himselfgrappling with one of her colourful creations, prepared speciallyto mark the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.Diary DatesJuneSat 2nd— Mon 4th Jubilee Celebrations VariousThurs 7th Carpet Bowls The Watson Hall 7.30pmTues 12th WI Walking Tour Of Carlisle 6.30pmThurs 21st Carpet Bowls The Watson Hall 7.30pmJulyTues 3rdWI Open Meeting ‘Bread Making’ The Watson Hall 7.30pmThurs 5th Carpet Bowls The Watson Hall 7.30pmThurs 19th—Sun 22nd Music on the MarrCastle CarrockSat 21st Round the Reservoir Race Castle CarrockJubilee ExhibitionA reminder that there’s to bean exhibition of photos and memorabiliain St Peter’s Church as part ofthe Diamond Jubilee weekend.
