Garden & GroundsOne of Headington Hill Hall’s key features are the expansive, landscaped groundsin which it is set. Originally the Hall had acres of grazing land surrounding it,these received a makeover under the direction of William Baxter, curator ofOxford University’s Botanic Garden. The land immediately surrounding the Hallwas on a steep slope, so a series of formal terraces were created, providing spacefor a level flower garden. The wider parkland was laid out with a network ofdrives and paths, and trees and shrubs were planted. As the Hall passed throughdifferent owners the grounds have been reduced to two large lawns to the frontand side of the main buildingDuring the summer months the lawns can play host to drinks receptions, and thegrand staircases leading from the lawns to the entrances of the Hall provide anexcellent location for photographs.
