Jack Millard Memorial Football Official AwardJames S. MoscarelloJames grew up in Kilmarnock, Virginia – a small farming town near <strong>the</strong> eastcoast – as <strong>the</strong> third <strong>of</strong> six children <strong>of</strong> Ca<strong>the</strong>rine and Charles Moscarello. Hisfa<strong>the</strong>r managed a pig farm <strong>the</strong>re until <strong>the</strong>y moved north to New Jersey in <strong>the</strong> mid1980s. James attended McCorristin Catholic High School and went on to studyengineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. He played football<strong>the</strong>re as a wide receiver under Bill Klicka and after two years transferred toTrenton State College, where he studied economics and played at tight end for EricHamilton.After graduating college in 1995, James began a career in finance at an assetbasedlender called Q Financial in Princeton, NJ. He worked <strong>the</strong>re for eight yearsand was promoted to vice-president <strong>of</strong> client relations. He later went on to workas a financial advisor with MetLife at <strong>of</strong>fices in Lawrenceville, NJ and NewYork City. In <strong>the</strong> winter <strong>of</strong> 2006, he accepted a role with <strong>the</strong> Mercer County ParkCommission as a manager at Mercer Oaks golf course. In <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>of</strong> 2009, hewas transferred to Princeton Country Club where he manages a staff <strong>of</strong> 15 seasonalemployees and oversees all transactions in <strong>the</strong> golf shop.James began his <strong>of</strong>ficiating career in <strong>the</strong> late 1990s, <strong>the</strong> last year <strong>the</strong>y required new <strong>of</strong>ficials to go through a two-year cadettraining program. Upon completion <strong>of</strong> those two years, he joined <strong>the</strong> crew headed by referee Byron Crammer. He startedas a head linesman, but quickly found a home as back judge. He credits much <strong>of</strong> his success in <strong>of</strong>ficiating to <strong>the</strong> supportand encouragement he received from <strong>the</strong> veterans on that crew, and also <strong>the</strong> advice and guidance he was given by SamCortina.
