2Hangouts InCampusWhile there is a lot to explore in college, the area everyone hangs outin does tend to follow a trend based onyour year. Here’s exploring that trend:• 1st Years: Generally, all seniors rememberthe menu of MechC by heart sothey opt for different places to sit at. Mostof the first years can be found huddledaround tables in the crowded MechC tryingthe chilly potato. The hostellers hangout at the NightC or near the famousMaggi Baba.• 2nd and 3rd Years: These two yearsusually have the same hangout spots.Nescafe, Windpoint, OAT and eateriesoutside of college attract them in largecrowds. They know places around DTUby now, they have favorites in every canteenthe lazy ones just usually sit at placesnear their academic blocks!• 4th Years: It’s a different story altogether.Devoid of being able to enjoy delicaciesoffered in college, they are busygulping fear and circling the TnP, academicand admin blocks. Future calls!AccommodationsAround CollegeDelhi is a huge city and we knowyou’ve all come from various nooksand crannies of this region. We have too.So, we’ll share valuable information withyou which will help you enjoy your collegelife without the added routine oftravelling 4 hours daily. You can alwaysopt for one of the following PG’s if youdon’t get a hostel. For girls :-• YS Hostel - It’s almost like a hostel andhas a very large number of residents soyou’d have to book a seat in advance.Facilities are great and the rent is 7k permonth including a mess.• White House - It’s a house painted inwhite. It’s a decent place to live in witha rent of Rs. 4800 per month and foodfacility has an additional cost along withthe electricity bills.• Vishal Palace - They charge accordingto the room that you take and have a messin the basement. One floor is for girls. The PG is sort of co-ed. (boys, pleasedon’t smirk)For Boys:-• White house - same as above. There is awhole separate section for boys.• Vishal Palace - As we did mention, itis co-ed.• Aunty PG - Names can be weird. It’s agood PG located next to the lane besidefuture point. 2600 rent per month butyou’ll have to use the college mess forfood facility.Choose wisely.Exam TipsSocial Pages tostay up-to-datewith DTUThese days, social media helps onestay updated more than any newspaperdoes, and in DTU, you see a lotof pages that crop up every year for thestudents. It will suck out your entireenergy. You will be sleep deprived and thus, lack focus during the exam. Also, you need time to finish the course, which becomesdifficult.• Do solve the previous year question papers. If you are lucky enough, just solving previous year papers may fetchyou decent marks.• Purchase the notes in advance from the photocopy shop or you may end up wasting precious time a day before theexam, waiting in the crowd.• Most importantly, keep calm during the exams and don’t hesitate to ask help from your seniors or batchmates.www.dtutimes.dce.edu | 3 rd Edition | AUG 2015

Locate The RoomFood JointsOne of the basic problems that freshers have in the first year isdecoding the mysterious codes of labs and class rooms in thecampus. TW4TF2 does seem strange, doesn’t it? We hope thatyou will not face this harrowing problem after reading this:TW refers to the Teaching Wing, i.e. the class rooms of eachdepartment. Succeeding this would be a number, the meaning ofwhich is explained below.TW-1 is the Electrical Block.TW-2 is the Electronics/ Computer Science/ IT BlockTW-3 is the Civil and Environmental Block. And TW-4 is the Mechanical, Production and Automotive EngineeringBlock.LW refers to the Lab Wing. LW signifies the location of the labson campus.IW refers to the Inclined Wing, a complete section in itself inthe Science Block and FW refers to the Faculty Wing where therooms of the faculty members are located.Succeeding this would be the code of the floor (on which the roomis situated).GF refers to the Ground Floor. All rooms on the ground floorare coded as GF-1, GF-2, GF-3etcSimilarly, FF refers to the First Floor, SF refers to theSecond while TF refers to the Third Floor. So, we hope you’ll be a little more confident now if someoneasks you to go to the room TW3GF2!As soon as we enter the college, we just need a reason tohang out with our friends, be it for a birthday party, a newphone or a new bike, so it’s essential to know about all the foodjoints near DTU. College MantraRightly said, engineering is not just a degree, it’s an art anda way of life. No matter what one goes on to do after engineering,he’ll first be an engineer and then everything else. Whatone learns here, definitely cannot be learnt anywhere else. Here aresome things every fuchha must be prepared to learn over the courseof next 4 years-• Endurance - Remember the tragedy that would befall wheneveryou would score a cruel 90? Welcome to engineering; where sometimesa breezy 40 brings much more relief than all those 95s evercould. Engineering teaches you the art of patience; it grounds youto the earth, sharpens the endurance after years of trying and failingand brings to reality the most important aspect of all: mediocrity.• The Art of Vivas - Ask any engineer of their viva/interview storiesand you’re definitely set for an hour. You can’t expect anythingless when one gives four vivas four times a year for four consecutiveyears. Acing a viva without knowing the slightest or flunkingeven after an in-depth analysis of the syllabus, DTU vivas are aspredictable as its exam syllabi.• Survival - Going on a non-bathing spree for a week or survivingon one meal a day or even passing the week with one pair ofclothes - you’ll see it all if you’re a hosteller(and that is a BIG ‘if’).Who says Bear Grylls leads an adventurous life? Every engineeringcollege is a piece of wilderness on it’s own.• Living a life - The most important and most gradual part of engineeringlife. The much-hyped “exposure” of engineering college isnot overrated. Meeting people from all parts of the country, planningnight outs, organizing the fests, everything about an engineeringcollege has a grandeur that mimic a lifetime in a span of 4years.DTU TIMES TEAM4CONVENERDR.
