Neutron activation analysis (NAA) continues to be one of the most
utilized capabilities of the reactor. The laboratories dedicated to
NAA have analysed both short, via a pneumatic system, and long
lived radionuclides using traditional irradiation locations.
3. Future Capabilities
In order to expand the analytical capability the facility can offer,
several new projects are in development. Analytical enhancements
and developments for the future include:
• Upgrade the neutron diffraction facility in order to study residual
strain for academic and industrial applications.
• Implement prompt gamma neutron activation analysis (PGNAA)
for analysis of geological and atmospheric samples.
• Produce radioisotopes for medical and industrial applications.
