<strong>DISC</strong> <strong>Teambuilding</strong>: <strong>Getting</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>know</strong> <strong>you</strong>LearningObjective(s)By the end of this session, learners will be able <strong>to</strong>:Share those preferences and gain insight in<strong>to</strong> what others expect from usAt the end of the exercise, we will create a document that will helpremind us of how we can do a better job with each other and as a team <strong>to</strong>communicate betterMaterialsThe following materials are necessary <strong>to</strong> train this activity:Prework – Summary <strong>DISC</strong> paragraphs on index cards.MarkersEasel and PaperBlank paperScissorsTimelineThis activity will take 30-60 minutes <strong>to</strong> complete, depending on the amoun<strong>to</strong>f discussion generated.Student &TrainerPre-Work2 weeks in advance of the activity ask each participant <strong>to</strong>: Write a summary of their <strong>DISC</strong> Style. They will do this by utilizing their individual <strong>DISC</strong> report. The summary will be a simple, short paragraph highlighting 3 – 4 ofthe <strong>DISC</strong> sentences they feel described them the best. Have them provide this paragraph <strong>to</strong> <strong>you</strong> in advance. Write the paragraphs on index cards. Be sure this does not includetheir name. Number each of the cards and create a master list for <strong>you</strong>rself as <strong>to</strong>who each card describes.StudentPre-WorkCreate and send <strong>you</strong>r summary paragraph <strong>to</strong> the trainer.Review and bring a copy of <strong>you</strong>r Values <strong>to</strong> the organization pages from <strong>you</strong>rDiSC.Continued on next page© Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. 2012 1


<strong>DISC</strong> <strong>Teambuilding</strong>: <strong>Getting</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>know</strong> <strong>you</strong>, Continued<strong>Teambuilding</strong>ActivityInstructionsStepAction1 Provide a blank piece of paper <strong>to</strong> each participant.2 Have one person scribe for the group.o Scribe will read each description and then ask thegroup <strong>to</strong> guess who it is by writing down thenumber of the index card and the person’s name ona blank piece of paper.o You will read and describe all the sheets until <strong>you</strong>have the entire group done.3 Trainer: Tell the group who each description represented.As <strong>you</strong> identify the person, ask the identified person <strong>to</strong> give theScribe, 3 things they want people <strong>to</strong> remember from thatdescription.4 Once <strong>you</strong> have recapped all the descriptions, move on <strong>to</strong> theValues <strong>to</strong> the organization.5 Ask each individual <strong>to</strong> write their values up on the easel at thefront of the room.6 Discuss: What is a common project we will have coming up thatwe will all need <strong>to</strong> have a role in?7 Discuss: Now that we have identified our project, let’s imaginer alist roles that will need <strong>to</strong> be filled <strong>to</strong> successfully achieve ourgoal.8 Discuss: For each role, let’s now look at the <strong>DISC</strong> summaries andValues <strong>to</strong> the organization. Who might be best suited <strong>to</strong> fill theseroles?
