Theproject calls for upgraded combustion air systemson two chemical recovery boilers. Usingpulping residues as fuel, the chemical recoveryboilers generate steam that ultimately producesprocess heat and electricity, and recycles thechemicals used in the pulping process.The boiler upgrades will result in an eightper cent capacity increase, as well as a reductionin nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, andsulphur dioxide emissions. Dye commented,“The design relies heavily on our advancedComputational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelingto evaluate emissions performance.”In the Midwest, Jansen has upgraded two powerplant boilers to convert from 60/40 biomass/stokercoal firing to 100 per cent biomass firing.
